  • Kane Valley

Anybody been in that area lately?
I'm talking about the road that runs from Kingsvale to the 97C.

Last year in September, the road was in awful shape....even the Caretaker for the campsites mentioned how bad it had been for most of the summer.
    Just wondering what to expect...

    Thanks.

We went over that road last July and it wasn't bad at all. The bikes were 2 Africa Twins, an R1200GS and a KLR. It was an easy ride that I could have done in my Toyota Matrix. Don't know how it could've gotten so bad in 2 months. I'm talking about the Kane Valley road that runs from the Coldwater road through Kingsvale to 97C. If it's in really bad shape I'd like to know because I've routed the GVMC Routledge Run over that road next month.

It was "bad" in that it hadn't been graded all summer (so the caretaker said) and was fairly pock-marked with potholes. Not a big deal on bike....but we were towing an RV at the time, so it took us longer than usual to reach our destination.

Thanks TW. I've been over that road several times and that's pretty much the condition it's usually in.

Just a follow-up...the road is in decent shape from one end to the other. We were able to pull a 24' RV without any issues.

Depending on your final destination, there's a nice cutoff to 5A that comes out just east of Aspen Grove and trims off a bunch of 97C slab riding. It's been a few years, but it was less traffic and more fun, but still fully maintained FSR last time I was through there. You can see it if you zoom in far enough on Google Maps, labeled as "Tillery Road". Turn right at an obvious intersection at the end of the first lake you come to (coming from the south/kingsvale). You end up bypassing the lakes where all the campers are.

              Cheers

Thanks, Ken. I'd looked at that road but was leery about taking it without doing a pre-ride. We'll be heading from east to west so will be turning off 5A to the Kane Valley road. The shortcut works the same either direction.
