We can all hope it doesn't make it to the show!!! ever!!!

Sorry, I think it's the ugliest bike since the invention of the motorcycle :(. It looks sooooo incapable ofdoing anything off pavement.

I just love ignorant statements like these. There are KLR riders on this site that will take their bike places you would probably only dream of. The KLR has been around for a long time and has proved itself on the road and in the dirt at an affordable price. Don't knock a bike that you don't have the skill to ride

I wasn't talking about the KLR all you guys love, I know it's very capable. I was talking about the new 08KLR. I think Kawi is going in the wrong direction. Maybe they will make the new 450 street legal . I didn't think I made an ignorant statement, just a comment. I once owned a Honda Transalp, couldn't refuse the deal, $1000 bucks, but man that was a heavy bike and not very capable off road. The 08 KLR reminds me of the Transalp. Honda sold lots of them over seas but sales were very poor in North America and they were only available for a few years. History usually repeats itself. Sorry if I offended anyone.

FYI

MSRP Husky 610 $7299 US dollars

MSRP KLR 650 $6499 Canadian dollars

Used KLR (see Tash's) $3500 Canadian dollars

Spending the $4 grand difference going somewhere: priceless.

P.S. When are you going to have you XR up and running Scotty?

No offense taken. I thought you were making a blanket statement about KLRs in general like a lot of others tend to do. I apologize for for my comments. But I will wait for the new 2008 KLR to comeout and betested before I make an opinion of the bike.

Until I see it up close and in person I will reserve judgement. As a KLR rider, who often wonders with the skill level I have and want to attain wether a Vstrom would have been an equally good choice. So with how I see the new 08 KLR it has me wondering if it will be bridging the KLR - VStrom gap, which might appeal to the semi- serious off-roaders like me. As yet I don't dislike the appearance, but who knows once I will get to see it in person.

And yes Scotty and I know some KLR riders who have proven it can and does go just about anywhere they point it. Places some of us wouldn't have expected it could. I know I will be regretting this one but, those guys aren't that crazy really, just that good.:)shoot: maybe I'll just skip the next meeting or 2)

Yes....The new 08 KLR will be at the show in all three colors(red, blue, green). As far as it being more or less capable.....we'll have to wait and see. Bottom line is that it is still a KLR under all the new plastic. I first thought they had made a mistake as well but the more I see the more I think it is just a little more refined. We'll have to go beat the c@#p out of it and see:tup:. Oh Yeah, talked to the kawi rep this morning to confirm it would be at the show. To bad the new KLX450 won't be, they haven't made it across the ocean yet!!:?

One thing for sure, the 08 KLR makes quite an impression good or bad. My theory is, that most people who us the KLR for off hwy trails is dissappointed like me because we like the bike to look the part. Otherwise it may be an ok bike. Wonder what the new price tag would be anyway.

Scotty, as a dedicated and greasy KLR owner, I agree. It is an ugly bike. BUT, and this is a big but, most of us (OK, all) own the "original" version. Bastardized or not, it's the same as we all know.

Not built for the real Dual Sport crowd, but as Chris said, "refined".

Personally, I think it should be duck-taped to the Ulysses, floated to the deepest part of the straight, and sunk with a freakin big rock tied to it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it is broke, just let us do the work.

I've been hammered before in this forum for saying this....but....Kawasaki could have done a lot better but chose not too. So glad I have an 06 KLR instead of an 08. Would be nice if they could build a Dakar version just for fun like this KTM 690. It seems like Japan lost the fun spirit and its all business now. There is a lot of us baby boomers who would love something like that.

In my humble opinion, the best KLR at the show is the KLR-XS. You can see it at the DSBC booth, which by the way in my humble opinion, is the best club booth at the show. Great job, Judy and the gang.

Cheers, Ed

The KLR-XS made the booth stand out. Nice job on that although I'd have to win a mini lottery before buying those wheels.

The 2008 KLR looks fine but I can touch the ground which would indicate less suspension travel.

Not a big beemer fan but the 650 X-Country was a good fit. The Aprilia was tall but a sweet looking ride.

Lots of friendly faces at the booth. :)

I saw the new KLR and IMO one of the fugliest bike at the show. It would now surpize me if Kawasaki changes the design for 2009.

Yeah, not too impressed with it. They have painted plastic and the rear fender on the blue one had a big chunk of its paint chipped off. They must have dropped it. Plus when you stand on its pegs you can't see the front wheel anymore. I guess due to the new front fairing with instruments.

I liked the BMW 650 bikes. I liked that they put the effort into providing such a wide range of 650's. 650 dakar, 650 GS, 650 Xcountry, and 650 Xchallenge. And soon an 800 cc bike from BMW. At least that's what they claimed. So it looks like BMW and KTM are poised for more DS success.
