Spoke with Wally Klammer about this event the other day and he advises that there will be 3 routes and that one of the routes is suitable for a dualsport bike. Tom, Neil and skidMark plan to check it out this Sunday and hopefully they will report back and advise what skill level is required. After all, Wally is one of the organizers of the Piston Run and has a sadistic sense of humour.

Hoping that the weather cooperates on Sunday & plenty of riders come out to explore Chipmunk.

As the OP indicates, there really aren't any trails / routes suitable for GS's or asphalt-biased tires. The easiest loop will be over Thurston: A novice on a DRZ should be ok, as would an 'expert' on a KLR. The trails were in great shape yesterday and the views were outstanding.

Wow ! A novice on a DRZ going over Thurston ? I'd classify myself as barely a "B" rider, and still get nervous going up/over Thurston.

Are you saying I put too much bait on the hook?
I was a novice on a DRZ when Yves first led me over Thurston 10 years ago. The route is considerably easier now with only a couple of 'features'.
It's good to have goals!

I don't know about that...five or six years ago I used to travel up Thurston on a regular basis...now, it scares me. I was actually air-borne on the way UP this spring...haven't gone back since.

But then again....I am a bit of a chicken.
