I think dualsport bc should enter the 24hr marathon in Hope on october 1-2nd. Its 200/team, which means its only $33.34 if we can get 6 people together. So, who's all in?

Thanks Scott

DSBC has already committed to two teams of 6. Its time to get organised. Maybewe have a volunteer:spl: (Scott).

We need two Team Captains with cool team names. Of course we need riders and pit crews. Remeber you do not have to be some kind of a Xtreme Off Road Maniac, they have the course marked out with A B and C routes, and I will be bringing a couple of smaller bikes that we can use if you dont want to take your GS Adventure out. October is not that far away so the sooner you get your name in the sooner we can get the whole thing happening.

Here is the start. Just email me your name and what you want to do [email protected] put dirt bike marathon in the subject line

At this point its byob, although if your riding a 650 or larger, i will more than gladly loan my bike to team members. Tom mentioned that he may also have a lead on a couple light bikes that people can borrow, i don't know much about that offer though.

Scott
Scotty you little party planner you!

DirtyBill and I committed to participate when this was discussed with Tom weeks ago. I have no idea why he didn't list us... obviously a snub of some sort; perhaps I've been demoted to the role of umbrella bitch for Ted & Tommy?

Whether I'm included or not, I've always been a fan of the 'Army of Darkness' team name (cool bunch of WERA racers from the past 15 years).

The understanding was/is that the 24hr would be an excellent launch of our Copper Canyon trip, though I fear that TT has lost interest in pursuing this ride.

Scott, your dyslexia is driving me crazy... could you or a moderator please edit this thread title to FVDR?

I'm not sure if thats a great team name. I don't know if we want to represent dualsport bc that way. Plus we'll have at least one team member (being me) who doesn't drink.

Team no smoke sounds great to me. Whats the deal with pit crews, do we need them and what qualifications do/should they have?

Yes you need pit crews. I have done a 24 hour marathon in the past. It is a lot of fun and a lot of work. We finished 2nd intermediate out of 20+ teamswith just 4 riders.

I say the more people and bikes you have the better. The riders get really beat up and tired. It is nice to have other people around to fix bikes and change tires ect. You can either compete for the win or just go for fun. Make sure that yourteamagrees on what your goal is before you start.

For equipment you will want a generator and some big flood lights for your pits. We only had bikes break at night and would have been screwed trying to wrench with a flash light.

Do your prep and training and it will be a time everyone will remember for the rest of there lives. ROCKE

Rocke, what sort of problems did you have with bikes other than flat tires? Are there any parts that we should have with us other than some tubes and maybe a tire or two? Thanks for your help

Doing a 24 marathon with 4 bikes really beat the bikes up. We used 4 1991 kdx 200's. These bikes are known for durability in off road conditions. That being said we had 3 flats.(two rear and one front). One of the bikes had the nipple on the spark plug vibrate lose causing the wire to come on and off of the spark plug. Just try to figure that one out at 1:30am when you haven't slept.

We broke a few levers in crashes too. We had a mechanic who went over each bike when it came off the track. This was the part that saved us a lot of headaches.(the bikes and riders were out for 1 hour at a time). If you get the same bikes you make your life easier as far as parts goes.

I would bring spare tires, tubes, bars, levers, brake pads, and coolant. The better prepared you are the more fun you will have. If you don't have new chain and sprockets I would bring a set.

It sounds like you are pretty enthusiastic and I think that is the most important thing you can bring to the race. ROCKE

Have you ever thought what it would be like to spend 24 hours riding your
dirt bike (or quad) on an off-road course, the sights, the sounds,
riding throughout the night, the festive atmosphere with team members, the
bonding and lifelong memories with friends.

After a 10 year absence, the Fraser Valley Dirt Riders have been hard at
work planning the return of the historic 24 hour marathon event at the
Tailings Pond in Hope for you, your family and your friends.

The 24 hour marathon is unlike any other event. Although it is an event, in
that participants ride as many laps as possible in a 24 hour period, you
ride as a team with two to six team members, unless you want to try to be an
ironman and ride the entire event alone. One rider represents your team on
the course at any time. The atmosphere is more casual than most event,
because each team member only rides a portion of the event.

The 24 hour marathon will be a unique experience and one that will create
memories for participants that will last a lifetime. So get your team together (friends, and family) and register for this event as soon as possible. Entry is limited to only 100 teams. Teams can be made up of riders of all ages, rider experience/ability and gender. You make up your team and pick your course accordingly. Even mix motorcycles and quads on the same team (on the B course only).

But remember, after 100 teams are entered, there will be no more teams
allowed. Sign up early and save.

The challenge is not only against the other teams and individuals but
against the clock, as well as the terrain fatigue and your own mind.

Good luck, and remember that having fun is
mandatory.
