Good mechanic in the Abbotsford area?

What was your jetting profile and did you have to install and adjust jets and needle height I have used ProCycle in past and they seem to be very helpful. I have not spoken directto the tech line but from what I have read they prove the jetting profile from seal level to beyond 6000 ft so in this case jetting should be close on TM40 carbs delivered to specific application.

I always check once out of box on the bench as mistakes do happen.
To be honest, I can't remember what jetting it came with. All I know is some more of that "anecdotal" evidence; from the day I installed the TM, she started easier, idled better, more take-off power, better low RPM performance, no more surging (even though I installed the PC jet kit for the stock BST).
Without sacrifice? Hardly...I went from about 60MPG down to 45-50...but that could have to do with the fun-factor of being able to roost and drift...and since I don't do much (any) ADV riding (yet) the "slight" loss of mileage was never an issue for me.
I ultimately upgraded to the IMS 4.9 gal tank last year, just to eliminate that issue completely. I've never run it to RES yet, but I get over 250 kms and when I look into the tank, I can still see fuel, so I don't worry about it.
I have yet to go more than 250 kms without seeing a gas station.

On the xr I would have liked the pumper but cost... I took pig pen jetting, drilled out but left sparky in exhaust, better clutch springs, larger tank, light cam,and the bike runs good... Any more and the suspension can't handle it... Best mod I did was better front brake for drifting downhill and general stopping!
remember great fun from monkey wrench to spence slydin all the way!
as I said I'd pay a good teck, hard to find

I like the tape up the air box bit, actual shape and size all work with exhaust..... Guys in the white coats.... !
if you want more.. Ktm, beta, husky
No disrespect, stock plus a tune is best, it's how it was created

If working at the factory level one gets to attend engineering scrums, this is where the mechanics lynch the engineers for making things so complicated. It was during one of these that I was exposed to Helmholtz Theorem of resonance and its application to internal combustion engines.

This is not Vortexman opinion but straight physics, it does seem to illicit much emotional reaction and debate.

Not bike related but this would be the same reason you can delete muffler but not resonator on modern Diesel engines (unless you like replacing turbo often)?
nice of you to fill in missing pieces:)

Believe it or not I have been a known irritant to the tech department at Finning. I have not worked my way towards the KTM tech dept but I have heard they move around a great deal.

I remember that ride well Scott, nothing but a crossed up dusty blur of red and orange.

Yes
many great times on the old Apple, going to keep that low maintenance ride and not look for another ;)
That ride was something to remember for me for sure!

Did the OP get it fixed yet?? As DC says, the TM40 really wakes up a DR, once you get it sorted. FWIW my 08 DR ran like shit too and it was the float level.. plus a little water in the fuel tank created havoc. Did you replace the headpipe gasket or leave the old squashed one in there? If so, the stud nuts will back off sometimes from expansion/contraction. And search Pro-Cycles website for lots of tips on your problem. I know a good DR/DRZ mechanic but he is on the island.

Edit... I posted this after reading the first page.

Still not sorted. I did replace both gaskets when I did the exhaust. Been out on a bunch of "spirited" rides this year and noticed the other day that both header bolts had backed way off and the header was very loose. No idea how long they'd been like that, or what kind of damage the gasket might have sustained from all the vibration of the loose header and being stored outside with a foot of snow on the bike most of the winter, but I tightened the bolts and it didn't seem to make any difference. I think I'll order a new gasket tomorrow and just replace it anyway.
