Looking for some loop ride advice

So far this year i've been able to do that loop from burns lake to the morice up to houston and back. And the Telkwa high road to moricetown. Beautiful rides.

I have a couple more simple ideas that i would like to get out of the way on some weekends but it would be greatly appreciated if someone could give me some food for thought!

I'm based in burns lake and thanks for the look.

Tree, you just missed a long week-end at Fraser Lake a couple of weeks ago! If Sparklr ever puts out the RR :Stir he may include some of the routes in that area.
Sounds as if you've explored South Side / Francois Lake / Ootsa Lake area ...I love that area - lot's of "easy" stuff (just for me). What degree of "offroad" are you looking for? We now have "Route Scouts" in Kitimat, Terrace, Hazletons, Smithers, Houston and you in Burns Lake (sounds like a floor to sleep on in each town :)). One day someone will build a list of the various rides, type, difficulty etc.
As you know there are many, many FSR and trails ...just go and explore and let us know.If you haven't already, get a copy of the BC Backroad Mapbook it's a good start...certainly enough to get you lost and into embarrassing situations.
One of my favourite "loops" is Terrace-New Aiyansh-Cranberry Connector (Kitsault detour)-cross Hwy 37 - if not going the Stewart/Hyder) Mitten & Helen FSR - Kispiox - camp at Hazleton then Moricetown -Telkwa High Road - (cross Hwy 16) - Lawson FSR (?) and come out near Houston & then off somewhere south of Francois Lake - Takysie Lake ....
Sometime I want to go for a look-see up Babine Lake - Granisle to Fort Babine

Anyway...look at the map and join up the dots

Kitimat hit some great ones, for sure the Hwy 37 - Kispiox loop. Another one in your area, granted it is pretty simple is the Augier with some detours to Babine Lake, down to Palling, and back on slab to Burns. I am not sure if you can take the ferry across Babine Lake at that point, but if you can you should be able to do a loop to Ft St James and back. A side detour into the Pinkut Salmon Spawing Channels is kinda neat. Fun road too.

A small one is the 700 rd half way to the Francois ferry on the left hand side, just before Tchensikt Lake. It will take you to the other side of Burns by the mill. At least I beleive that it still goes that far.

A fun one is Topley to Graisle, the Ganisle cut off or the Old Fort FSR, and down to Smithers with some exploring on the way. There is a loop from Babine to the Suskwa, all main FSR but it has been deactivated and I am not sure if a bike can get through the deact or not. I would guess that it could but I have not seen it.

Just some food for thought. I would love to join you in that neck of the woods and will post up if I am heading that way.

Thanks for the heads up of the rides to try out. As far as my skill level. Well i will try anything once within reason. I also have a 450x that i would be willing to take my truck somewhere and explore around on the little one for a bit also.
I have my eyes set on some routes though i am waiting for a weekend without standby. I was hoping i could go check some out this weekend but work comes first. And the long weekend i was back home on the island so wouldnt have been able to make it anyways.

One question though for those that might know. If coming south from houston down the morice-owen, take a right on the morice (west) river fsr the a right onto the Thautil River Rd.

That road ends at what seems to be a hiking trail. That hiking trail connects to what seems to be a road which is the Howson Creek Road Trail just outside of telkwa.

If that makes any sense is that "hiking" trail passable by bike?

Well thanks for the read.

Oh, you got me on that one. I will have to look into it. I have not heard that a loop is there, but that is not to say that it is not. I will check it out by truck one day and see what it looks like. Thanks for the quest :)

so my girlfriend bought me a new gps. I will be sure to record the tracks of my rides whenever i go out for the remaining season this year and next year when i come up. I will be sure to post the tracks up when i have time to figure it out completely. Any other good ideas from trips out there id be willing to try it out.
That being said i tried last night to find the old parrot mountain lookout. I was also told when asking people about how to get up to the old lookout that the Parrot Lake trail road used to be able to connect to houston somewhere. Both of these are found out by Noralee on Francois lake. The lady that i was talking to at the resort in Noralee was saying that the Old lookout is too hard to get up (lots of blowdown) and the parrot lake trail has too much blowdown as well and is impassible. Needless to say i am intrigued. When i find out more i will definitely post up.

That would be a fun area to explore for sure. I have taken a sled to the Parrot Lakes from the Francois Lake side and if my memory serves me right (it was about 7 - 8 yrs ago) it was all FSR. I have also driven to the Parrot Lakes from the Houston side by truck no prob. But the resort lady might be right, there might be a ton of blow down.

Needless to say, I would love to spend some time exploring south of Burns by bike one day. Hopefully next year.

As for the GPS tracks, I just received some form another fellow here on the forum for South of Williams Lake to Hwy 99, as that is another hope for one day. I had no probs putting them onto the computer. If you get some cool tracks, post them up. Most of the tracks on my GPS have been simple ones for others to find.
