Hello all,

All 4 routes have been emailed to those that provided us with an email address on their registration form.

If you don't receive an email from the Loose Screw team with the routes, please PM me or email [email protected] and I will forward the message to you.

FYI, the routes will not be posted in the forum.

Thanks,

The Loose Screw Dual Sport 2010 Team

The following riders need to PM me for the routes as your email addresses keep bouncing back.

1) It is meant for real riders that know how to use roll charts :D
2) GPS units just add weight.
3) We don't want all of those trails floating around online for others to find since we are "borrowing" them ourselves.
4) The route makers weren't carrying one as they navigate with the sun and the stars.

I am sure I can think up a few more ;)

Bora pretty well covered it. Sorry charlie-we don't need no steenkin gps. Beside that-there are parts of the A loop that wont soon fade from your memory.

I'm having trouble with the B1 chart. When I print the page the strips are too big for the roll chart holder. When I shrink them to fit the holder the writing is soo small I can't read it. What am I doing wrong? I'm not computer savy and type with 1 finger

I have shaved a few mm off the chart and added the 'skinny' version to the download file. Try again and let me know what you think.

Excellent! Care to send the file to us when you are done? That is if you don't cartwheel it down the big hill :p

Thanks for the routes.....

The GPS file for the "B1" route seems to look good on the computer but the "blue line" for the route disappears on my Garmin GPS 60CSx between waypoints 001 and 006....but is visible on my GPS for the rest of the route

This is my first time downloading a route/track, so maybe I did something wrong????

Filtering a GPS Active Log for download to GPS

Filtering a GPS Active Log for download to GPS

Ged,

There is a track and a very short route in that file. The track shows 99% of the B1 path. The short little route is only to make up for a piece of the track that was not correct where Joker's GPS lost signal for a few hundred meters (near Homfray Lake and waypoint 008)

Is it possible that your GPS truncated the track when you downloaded it? The 60CSx, like most GPSs, only lets you import a track with 500 points. The B1 track that we sent you has almost 4000 points. The trick is to save a new filtered version of the track in Mapsource that has 500 points or less. Then you have the large accurate track for Mapsource and the smaller 500-point track for your GPS.

You can filter a track in Mapsource as follows:
  • Open the LSDS_B1_2010.gdb file in mapsource
  • Select Edit>SaveAs and save the file as LSDS_B1_filtered (or some such name)
  • Select the 'Tracks' tab in the left hand navigation window
  • Doubleclick the Active Log track and it will open the Track Properties dialog
  • Rename the track to B1_Filtered or some such name
  • Push the 'Filter' button in Track Properties
  • Select to filter the 'Entire Track' to a maximum of 500 points
  • Save the track and close Track Properties
  • Select Edit>Save on Mapsource to save the file.
If you want to be fancy, right click on the track in the navigation window ("B1_Filtered") and select Copy. Close the mapsource file and re-open the original LSDS_B1_2010.gdb file in Mapsource. Select the Tracks tab in the navigation pane and right click in the Tracks area, select Paste and it should put you filtered track in beside your unfiltered track. Save your Mapsource file for next time.

Then send your new filtered track to the GPS. Hopefully the entire thing will be visible.

Did you fall asleep reading the above? PM me your email address and I'll send you a filtered track.

I think there will be some GPS tracks post ride.

We ask that you keep that GPS track for yourself. We work hard to bring you some original routes. Publicizing these routes is a touchy subject around here and if we see that the GPS tracks are posted on public sites and handed around all over the place we are going to stop doing this and just lead you around through the public trails of Duffy Lake instead.
