Loose Screw 2010 Routes

We ask that you keep that GPS track for yourself. We work hard to bring you some original routes. Publicizing these routes is a touchy subject around here and if we see that the GPS tracks are posted on public sites and handed around all over the place we are going to stop doing this and just lead you around through the public trails of Duffy Lake instead.

But you can still send it to Dorky just prior to deleting it.

When you filter 4000 points down to 500 you will lose a lot of accuracy. Garmin only allows a maximum of 500 points per track but it will also allow you to store up to 20 tracks in your GPS. A better way to do it is to filter the original file down to about 2000 points and then use the "track cut" tool (looks like a pair of scissors at the top of Mapsource) to cut the track into 4 or 5 segments, each containing 500 points or less. Every time you cut the track Mapsource will save the segments as track 1, track 2 etc. When you upload the tracks into your GPS they will show as individual tracks in the track log screen but they can all be viewed simultaneously so when you look at your map page they all look like one continuous track. I do this all the time and it works great. For maximum accuracy you could just cut the original 4000 point track into 10 or so tracks with less than 500 points each but I've found that if you filter the original track down to about 1/2 of it's original number of points that the loss of accuracy is almost un-noticeable. Hope this helps.

i'll second dorky's statement! we've borrowed/commandered some pretty nice riding for you folks to enjoy. please RESPECT the borrowed part. If it's not yours, you have no right to give away someone else's private stash. just remember that we can also come to your areas and gps your trails and post them up on the web as well! keep the roll chart, and by all means come back and ride the trails again, or try the b/c route if you rode the A the previous time. i think that should be enough of the stern comments- now how about the rain we ordered up for yah?? See that's the kind of pull we have around these parts,so don't be given away our gps tracks-or we will order up thunder/lightening,and a big batch of Whoop-Ass for you.

Gord,
Thanks for the filtered GPS info for B1....will load it up tonight..

As for publicizing these GPS files.....the culprits should not be led around Duffy Lake....they should be used for bait there....and let them find their way out...

It's like surfers protecting their personal favourite breaks.....

Can hardly use a computer let alone the damb gps, thought I'd learn abit this time out. As a dirtbiker of many years I do understand how sacred these things are. I don't even wash the sacred lytton mud off the 450. I am hopeing to figureout how to load B1 into that damb gps for a different day.

Greg,
I seem to have been able to download and install the latest route map....but when I retry to view the file, my Mapsource program indicates an error, saying that it "cannot be read because it uses a subsequent file version. This program can read MPS files as well as GDB files version 2 and below".

I have no idea what this means and I can no longer get into my computer's MApsource to view any maps already installed.

WTF has happened by applying your latest GPS file????

My guess is that is a Windows error. Everything works fine on my Apple and Zumo, not that I am taking it though. I prefer the follow the flag and roll chart method.

Don't ask me how, but I seem to have got things working again.....maybe the Mapsource update download gave it a goose and things seem to be fine now.

I am basically a moron with this techno stuff, but apparently even morons can figure out a few things :)

So, the emergency panic button is at rest for now.

Good call on the Mapsource update. I try to keep mine reasonably up to date. This is the first I have heard that the .glb files may not be compatible. Was your Mapsource really old?
