Explorer
Thanks for posting. Looks good. How do you like the Explorer? I'm tataking a trip up north in June and was thinkng about getting one.
I like it so far only have a few rides in with it, but it's a huge peace of mind. I like to do a bit of backpacking and trekking too so I opted for the pricier Explorer version with GPS navigation added but am happy with it. I have it blue tooth linked to the phone to expand it's nav capabilities and map display but have not dabbled much with that yet. I like the two way messaging (free for presets like my fav "everything ok just checking in" or "On my way home" etc) although am not a fan of the complex scroll through keyboard for typing any lengthy message. Would be cat's ass if they had it paired with phone app to make that more user friendly.
I was impressed with it's power use, after a days riding it was still 94% battery life. It seemed to pick up signals very easily and tucked into a cargo mesh pouch on back pack it never lost signal to my knowledge.
The plans are a little steeper but then you can always cancel it until you need it again.
I had broken my handheld GPS last year in a tangle with a deer on the highway and needed a new one so the decision to fork out an extra $100 for the InReach Explorer was a no brainer for me.
