Hey I noticed there hasn't been much dialogue here for some time so I'm going to try and get things going again! Im not new to the pg area by any means but all my riding buddies have moved on! So looking to meet new folks, I've got a 2015 Klr 650, still working on putting the last few essential farkles on it before next season. I've been thinking about doing the doo and wanted to throw it out there see if anyone in the area wants to do the doo at the same time or if anyone has done it and wants to help/has the tools to lend ?
Look forward to hearing back!
Cheers!

It's a silly little dance move that really never caught on. "c'mon and do da doo!!" was I think the catchy line.

The Doo, is the poorly designed and built stock chain driven counter balancer adjuster gadget which is spring actuated and held captive by a bolt. IF the bolt loosens, the spring breaks= many broken bits inside the motor. If the stock Doo breaks=same result, IF the stock piece doesn't break but deforms enuf (from perhaps over torqueing) to allow the bolt to loosen=broken spring and bad bits whirling about.
The fix is a very pretty CNC'd piece from Eagle Mike for about 50 bucks with that and the addition of a torsion spring instead of a coil spring you can sleep well at night knowing that your new Doo will never be a dud. Though they have supposedly changed the issue in the newer models I wouldn't give it a seconds thought, it's an easy fix and my favorite part,, it's cheap.
I'm on my 4th KLr all of which were pre 08's and 2 of them have had dud doo's. the first dud doo was a broken stock doohickey adjuster and the second was a broken spring, like the song says " just shake a leg and do the doooo"

just done doin da doo. When I opened up the bike to verify they did a new doo I found the spring broken. This was almost a non event as I was to install a torsion spring anyways, but, where is the missing bit amongst all those whirly bits. It can't be found.
also not such a big event as I was going to check the oil screen as well, as this is a new to me KLr and it's getting a one over.

with less than 20k the perhaps stock spring gave out and a close look it appears to have been almost half spit for awhile. There is a Mikes "Hickey" installed which now has a torsion spring. Failure was likely caused by the original failing doo punishing the spring before the new doo was installed. Should've received either an Eagle Mikes heavy spring or the torsion. There is also a small gathering of shmegma on the screen like silicone left over from assembly. When changing the doo, a least once in a klR's life the screen should be checked, it's not that big of a job (so far) and should be done at least once.

the other thing is, what are the chunks of plastic?

just doo the Doo, and wind it up.

Yes,possibly shovelling snow. Our late spring and early fall makes me a bit jealous of you southern guys.I won't be able to get out for a bit yet.I'm heading off for a rental-ride vacation to break up the winter.....the reason I wanted to help with doohickey before I left.It would be great to have a bit of a group up here, similar to you guys and chilliwack area.

Opps sorry guys yeah meant to reply earlier but that dern snow! I still need to order parts and get organized . When are you heading on your trip, I probably won't be ready before as I am also off to the island pretty quick. Have you done the doohickey? Let's just say I'm not too mechanical and I only have a basic tool kit. I'd appreciate if you could let me know any specific tools that you wouldn't find in a run of the mill crappy tire kit that I might also need.

cheers

you are nowhere without the wrench to hold the flywheel and the puller to yank it off. someone in PG must have one to lend. Gnarly Dave carries the hickey and torsion spring and there's gobs of help on the web.
