So whats the word on the ride for this year? So far I see nothing on it YET.:(

Some of the crew have been in rehab, some locked up, some should be locked up and someone even sold their motorcycle.................WTF?

Yes, there will be an event but the only details we know at this point are that it will be May 24, 25 & 26 and based out of the Group Site at Gordon Bay Provincial Campground.

We will post more details as the crystal ball reveals them, but for now that's what we know.

Cheers,
Scott

An update for those interested. We have had a lot of inquiries about the Orca Run for 2013. As some of you know, the Farm is not available for this year and according to Henry, most of the A/B trails on the mountain have been wiped out by logging. So we'd have to start from scratch again and who has time for that? Since there is interest, a downsized event is planned for this year. Hopefully we can return to the Farm in future years! As Scott said we have reserved the Gordon Bay Provincial Park group campsite for a weekend event May 24, 25, 26. We are planning a few big GPS C and B plus loops from there. There are lots of great routes with terrific scenery so it should be a good ride. Any comments are welcome!

Of course there has to be an event, that way it makes it sound like work to wifie when we go riding every weekend and meet in the pub on week nights. "Wish I could stay home and help out around the house but we gotta go scout trails all day" and "I'd love to stay home tonight and watch American Idol (yuck) but we have an event that needs planning". Besides, what beats camping, drinking beer with friends and riding all day?

Absolutely Mike, likely start scouting near the end of the month, but I imagine snow will make it difficult higher up.

Here's a reminder copied from the Information thread...

25 tent maximum in the group site so REGISTER quick before they are gone.

Once the group campground is full (max 25), you must reserve a separate private site using the parks website.

Watch the Orca threads closely, there will be important information posted which may require you to take action (i.e. Group Site is full and you must book a camp site if you intent to camp, this may have already occurred)

That's too bad about the A & B trails gone. I am curious about how many KM (approximately) the C ride will be, how much time will it take, and where will it go? This would be my first C ride.

There will be a few circle routes to choose from, you can do one or all of them. Any DS bike with a license plate is suitable as most routes will be good gravel to old but passable logging roads and some pavement. You will need a GPS or follow a buddy that has one. Tracks will be emailed to registered riders a few days before the event. It will take anywhere from 2 hours to 12, longer if you get lost, run out of fuel or hit a bear. .
At this time the routes are top secret.. even the organizers (us) don't know where they go..

As we have about 45 sign ups so far and over 25 paid registrations.. looks like the Group site is beyond full. But Kiwi will post the official details when verified.

We wish there was another Group Campsite!

You will probably need to reserve your own private site or take a chance and just show up as in any other provincial campground.

This event is early in the season and not on a holiday weekend so there should be plenty of sites available. :hf:
