OK folks, here are some pics and a small RR. I will save all the goodies for the video.
We met at 08:00 at my place in Telkwa and departed around 08:30.
From here we ripped the 40 kms of FSR and entered into the pass. It was a real nice run with no incidents for quite the way until yours truly committed to a rocky climb and dumped the DR. No issues, no damage to me or the bike, just the need to roll to the bottom, restart the DR, and pick a new line. We all made our way to Top Lake for a nice photo op and a break:
Please keep in mind that I am running through this pretty quick as we have some great video that will show the fun way better then I can describe it. After a small break, we headed through the knarly rock section, full of loose rock and great funness. Everyone made it through with no probs, and 2T grabbed some GREAT footage through here. What a beautiful place.
That last pic is an interesting one as there was some action before and after that shot. Just before it, we had to run a section where 3/4 of the road was washed out by a foot or so with running water down it and a nice hard pack on the left side for the other 1/4. No big issue. We were all doing fine. I was working my way through it with no probs at all until I had a larger willow grab the peak of my helmet and start the process of removing my head from my body. I fought all I could, but to no avail and down I went. I was something pissed. I have run through countless bush on bikes, quads, and sleds and have never had this happen. The only saving grace is that 2T did not have the camera trained on me. Witnesses, yes, evidence, no
The other funny part of the photo is just before I took it, I was digging into my right cargo pocket where I had the camera, and was turning in a hurry to take the photo and with the momentum of my pack, I just plumb fell over, DR and all. After we all laughed at it, and started on our way, Leland decided that the 950 needed a break and over he went in the exact same spot. To top it off, while trying to dismount his steed, sparklr had a topple. I am chalking this up to a high magnetic field in the area that pulled us all down, except for 2T's mostly aluminium bike, and I think Norbusa was just outside of the magnetic field.
Once we got out of the pass, we did a little side tour up Trapper to the alpine. Really cool. After the detour, we ripped to Terrace, grabbed fuel, grub, and beer, and headed up the Nass to Lava Lake where we stopped for a bit to eat. After our grub stop, we headed into Aiyansh for fuel:
Once we fuelled up, we left for Kincolith to camp for the night. Just a note here that in Aiyansh, it must have been 40 degrees with the heat off the lava. After a tour of Kincolith, we found a great spot on the ocean for camp. Thanks 2T.
A beautiful camp under the stars. In the morning we ripped the wonderful road to Aiyansh for more fuel, and this is where we awarded 2T the merit badge for fire starting skills:
Good thing that he did not need that air mattress for that night.
Once fuelled, we headed up the Cranberry to Hwy 37. 2T brought up the rear:
Then it was down the Mitten:
Then the Helen:
It was on the Helen where I gained the Grouse Hunting honor. While I was ripping down the road at 50 km/h I was starting to get real hungry. While I was debating whether or not to stop to get a granola bar out of my pack, I came upon two grouse, two of the many that I had seen the couple of days. As I went by them, the one on the left decided to fly smack into the top of my gas tank, bounced up and off my bark busters and GPS, hit me in the chest, and started doing the chicken in my lap. It was kinda funny cause I thought that maybe I should stop and get a fire going to cook the snack that the heavens just provided my hungry belly, but then realized that I would be charged for starting a fire and hunting out of season, so I assisted the grouse in exiting stage right.
Then the final stop of the day, Old Town for lunch:
After lunch we all went our separate ways, with myself heading into a huge cloud of smoke caused by the fire up the Morice. At the end of the day, teh GPS read 670 kms. Not bad for a 2 day ride.
I will start working on getting the video together so we can all share in it.
Again, thanks to everyone for coming. It was a great time. Hopefully we can make this an annual event.
Take care.
