It was such a beautiful sunny westcoast day yesterday I thought I'd ride out to Chilliwack and pre ride the route for the Spring Newbie Ride. I'm really glad I had the heated vest and heated grips. The road ride out to ChilliwacK was chilly and therode ride home wasCOLD
I went to Cultas Lake and thru Sleepy Hollow. Right before the Army base I was surprised to see a new gate ! ! ! ! Thanks to those folks that dump their garbage up in the hills the area will be closed to regular traffic. I had a long chat with the ASU Duty Officer this morning regarding the gate. She will get back to me about ensuring the gate will be open for our ride. Because we are organized and licensed it should be no problem.
For days when the gate is locked there is still room for our bikes to get around the cement blocks.
Ahhhhhhhh the entrance to the Liumchen FSR. What a beautiful sight. So far the ride had been spectactular.
Then things started to get a bit dodgy. Riding in the shade of the mountain and at higher elevations wasa reminder that it is still winter here on the westcoast.
It wasn't so much the depth of the snow but rather the ice and the hills. When I could no longer see the rocks and gravel on the road I decided it was best to turn around. According to my GPS I was almost to the 1/2 way point on Liumchen then I would be going back down out of the snow and ice. But I just couldn't make it up the last icy hill. It was just too slippery.
so I went back to Cultas Lake and down Chwk Lake Road to Sleese Park. Then over to the Bench Road. Back into the sunshine. It was amazing.
Yup, it was a beautiful day for a ride. I put over 200km on the bike and came up with two options for the Spring Newbie Ride.A long ride and a short ride. Dependingon the weather we'll decide which one we'll do.
By the way . . . . . who was the guy on the DS bike I passed up by Ryder Lake???? That was the only DS bike I saw all day.
There will be more pre rides for this event as some of the trails need to be marked and the "A" riders (Tom, Mark, Neil etc) need to decide where to lead a brave group to have some extra fun.
