"The Hill "

And I'm not talking about the one down to Bella Coola (I can take the wife's Honda Civic for that). I'm talking about the West Pavillion Road down the steep switchbacked hill to the big bar ferry. Taken it many times and knew what to expect on the super tenere before- but now there is a deep sand section with a quick right hand turn about half way down. Just about lost it and got too close to the edge for comfort. Just a heads up folks especially if your on a big bike !

Yes, I experienced that (with the same sphincter tightening) last week. By the time I got to the bottom my rear brake had faded to near complete nothingness, and there seemed to me to be more sandy bits so used front with extreme caution. Sat on first gear the whole way down.
I had a very considerate driver coming up the hill right off the ferry give me all the time and space I needed to get down without incident.

This year I learnt a new trick when it comes to desending long steep hills I turn the bike off and usually use 3rd gear to keep the speed down shifting when necessary and thumb on the kill switch just in case. No more brake fade since!

Good thing about the ferry, though; The operator has a Beta trialer, so he's favorable to bikes.
Doesn't help much with the sand, though. It will likely tighten up with some moisture.
