We Are In

Its that time of year where DSBC has to decide if we are going to be in the Motorcycle Show.

The application has to be sent in soon and we have to decide what we are going to do.

We have a couple of issues this year which need to be addressed.

As in previous years I am willing to assist anyone who wants to organise the DSBC booth, but I can not commit to doing the entire event. So we need and event chair.

When we started this we (me and others)always wanted the DSBC display to be first class. This has happened for the past 3 years as we have taken home the prize money each year. To accomplish this we need a budget of about 1500 dollars, we raise that money through the DSBC Buffet (Another great event). So we also need someone to take over this event, again I can and will assist in any way I can but this will be your baby.

Personally I well be disappointed if we do not display at the Motorcycle Show. There has been discussion that DSBC is about as big as its going to get and does not have to be at the show. That may be true but the show allows us all to get together from all over the Province at the one event we are all interested in.

In all fairness I have not discussed this with any of the past event coordinators. They (JJ in particular) have stepped up to the plate and done a excellent job.

If you have any comments or if you want to jump in with both feet feel, free to post here, PM or call me

Tom,
could you tell us a little more about it?

When?
Hours?
How many were involved previously?
Are there any pictures of previous display to get a sense of what's needed?
Any other "Things we should know"?

thx

Other than where we were put last year (way in the back of the tent) it felt like a good event to participate in. I would be willing tocome and man the booth again work schedule permiting.

Check out this link from last years show http://www.dualsportbc.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=1133&forum_id=15&highlight=motorcycle+show

I thought we had pictures in the photogallery but I cant seem to find them now.

for the show itself go to

Last year we shared a booth with the PNWMA, GVMC, FVDRA and ourselves. first class and we raised the bar again for display. The benefits of sharing a booth is the impact of the theme and the shared costs of services. I have not talked to the other clubs yet but I think they want to go out on their own. Booth size is 10x10.

Can someone post pictures of previous shows????

Thanks Tom

I am a big promoter of the show, as a club we get in for 10% of the reg cost of space. With that deal I dont complain about our location, In factI told the show coordinator to put us anywhere they wanted, give us your worst location and we would make it work. Personally I liked the tent, it could have been better but it worked well, besides while everyone was being roasted in the main building we were comfortably cool in the tent.

In my opinion I think DSBC should be at the Show. I think we are a unique group and those people that own dual sport bikes look forward to seeing us there. How many of us joined this group because we found DSBC at the Motorcycle Show? I did. It's a great social event as well.

Tom is right though, it's a huge job. I have been fortunate to have been involved the past 2 years and I really enjoyed it. I am once again willing to participate and organize provided that I have all of you great people there to help me out as you have in past years. We would not have been as successful as we have been if it wasn't for all of the help and ideas of the club members.

We do need to raise money and that is done through the DSBC Buffet that has been VERY successful. I'm sure if we put it on again we will sell out as we have in the past.

As for the other clubs that we've displayed with in the past, there was some talk that the GVMC and the PNWMA may want to share again. I'll talk to the FVDR club and see what they are feeling.

Please feel free to PM, email or call me if you have any ideas, thoughts, comments or want to help out in any way.

I posted some photos from the 2006 Show in the photo gallery. Here's one to remind you all of what a fantastic display we had last year:

I'm going to stick my neck out on this one as well. Dirtybill I don't know what's going on over on the mainland but my observation on the island is that in a way things might have some element of similarity. To me DSBC was to be a place to meet people who love the sportno matter what level they choose to play at. I have noticed thatwe have seen an influx of new people here mid-island and at the same time a drop of some of the originalplayers.I also have learned to expect that with clubs and groups, but would hope that it beminimal while you are still in the growing stage. I know I probably won't play at some other peoples level with my KLR or have the skills to, but should that matter when it comes to sharing a coffee or sharing the sport in a booth at a show.

We are having our second year end banquet to share and celebrate our enjoyment of this hobby. I might even attend yours again if I can make it over. And as I saidin a previous reply I would do my best to come over if Javajude is going to put together a booth again. My hope of course would be to meet islanders over for the show and tomake them aware of our groups on the island.

There you now have my 2 cents worth.

Us newbies do not know about the politics in this forum like what happened to Bill, but this forum is great and so many people share ideas and opinions good or bad because we love DSporting. I would not take it to heart Bill if someone or some group did not invite you to an event because wherever you ride in BC, you will find we all share the same love of bike riding and when we pass each other on the roads or trails, we are always excited to wave to eachother as we all know we ride for fun and are glad there are more of us doing it than we know.

Way to go Judy!
I will be there to help with the tear down, and man the booth for a couple of shifts on Sunday.

As I mentioned in the last post, I'd be willing to help out. However I have a conflict seeing as my son is racing the Arenacross series in Chilliwackthis same weekend. I will try to pop in for a visit, but racing weekends are crazy busy.:hb:
