As per the thread in the “planning” subforum, here’s the outcome of a quick and hastily prepared trip.
Though I’ve been to W Harrison before, it was always with other riders, and apart from a quick gas stop at Tipella, never truly explored the area. Just blasted up to 99 and either doubled back on dirt, or slabbed down the east side of the Duffy loop.
This time, I set out to see the sights I wanted to, and planned to visit a good buddy in Merritt. All within a very short two day clear weather window bookended with rain.
Day 1. Late start due to family commitments-but hit the road just before noon, and gassed up at the Chevron on #7 before Sasquatch Inn. Kept a tradition my kids historically insisted on - on any solo trip, I must bring along of their small stuffies for company. Nicholas the Polar bear had never gotten a trip, so he got the navigator assignment. Can you spot him?

West Harrison saw great weather, especially at 20 Mile Bay.

I didn’t have enough time to visit both Sloquet and Port Douglas and still be up at Twin One Creek for my planned camp spot. So I chose Port Douglas. Had hoped there would be more of the old 19th century period buildings-saw virtually nothing, as most had already been torn down over time. The village of Port Douglas was in very poor shape, with garbage, poverty, and neglect in plain sight. Since a sign indicated access was for locals only, I didn’t stick around to take pics, except one of the local (and I guess original) cemetery.

The road and nearly disappeared jetty was outside the prohibited area, so that afforded a few pics and insight to the history of the area. Crazy to think that abandoned community was once one of the province’s biggest commercial hubs.
Lost time and daylight (but gained rain, lol), so I pulled into Lizzy Bay to camp for the night instead of pushing up to Twin One Creek. Had the entire campground to myself.
