This came up at our nanaimo coffee meeting thursday night..... thought I'd post it though to make sure everyone knows....

Next Tuesday, Nov 1, Outdoor Life Network will starting airing a 7 part series call 'Long Way Round'. It's a documentary about the trip that actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman took on 2 BMW R1150 GS Adventures from London to New York.... say it withe me... THE LONG WAY ROUND!!! Through Europe Asia, Canada & the US.

This was the first I heard of it, but it sounds very cool. The've also published it as a softcover book and are about to release it as a coffee table book.

Here's the Schedule... Tuesdays at 10pm on OLN
November 1st (Episodes 1 & 2 air back to back)
Nov 8th
Nov 15th
Nov 22nd
Nov 29th
Dec 6

It's out on DVD in the states, apparently there are 10 'extended' episodes on that, plus lots of extras.....

Happy Viewing.....

That's an awesome show, I have watched it several times.

But I'd rather cut off a digit than sponsor TSN's half-assed joke of a network.

OLN in the US gets:

The DVD is only available outside of north america until sometime next month or so. I also thought that they were showing the new 10 part series starting Nov. 1st 9PM? The web site listed the date under "New Series Airing..." section. Go to the web site: http://www.longwayround.com

Not sure... I got my info off the OLN site. I think it was 9 eastern, 10 pacific timing. You can order the DVD off of Amazon.com I noticed. $32 US for the DVD and the book.

'Half assed joke of a network', well that pretty much sums up of North American television. But you go with what you've got and enjoy what little you've got.........BTW biggest joke on TV?......CNN. Saddest joke? Americans don't realise just how bad it is.

Am I going to see any of you guys at the 3rd Annual DSBC banquet next weekend? I think I bought the last ticket available. :ss:

KTMKen, I can't make the banquet this year, so we'll just have to go riding soon instead!

tashunka, it IS an amazing show, and I think DSBC members will really enjoy it - regardless of what channel it is on. It really is an ADVENTURE!! Everyone tape it, so you can fast forward through the advertising those TSN bastards are making their money on. Thanks tashunka!

:tup:Don't forget to roll your clocks back an hour tonight everyone.

Cheers!

SO!!!!!!!! Who watched it? I did, I did, I did. Let me just say... Very F-in Cool. It's all very well done. Isn't overly cheezy (except for the producers that are one the sidelines pumping the drama from time to time). Not entirely a realistic scenario either. The funding behind these 2 is obviously fairly substantial (what with the 2 fully loaded suport vehicles and all....) not to mention they're political connections and ridiculous corporate sponsorships. Ewan's fame is definitely making things much easier for them.... thus far anyway.

I found it kind of funny at one point in the show, shortly after KTM told them they wouldn't be giving them 3 free 640 Adventures, Ewan was saying in his video diary that he felt kinda bad for getting so pissed of about the fact that they weren't getting freebies, but he then realized that if average joe was going on this trip, he wouldn't be getting a free bike either. Yeah...NO SHIT EWAN!!!!

Anyway, despite all the that it's pretty well done and in fact, even with all that extra help, it's still a pretty damn amazing feet and one helluva trip. Very inpiring to watch for sure. Although for now... I'd be happy with a road trip to Duncan! (50 clicks south of Nanaimo for those of you that aren't up on your Island geography)

Looking forward to next weeks episode.
:dr:

edit--- one more thing....what the hell's with Charley's Wheelies?!? Like every 2nd shot of him on the bike he's poppin' the front tire up. Granted, that's probably not the simplest feat on a fully loaded 1150gs, but still.... we get the point Charley!

I agree, I watched both episodes and I'm hooked. That part with the dude in the Ukraine coming down the stairs with his guitar....and AK-47 was priceless:clap:It is very well done, and even though they have the support vehicles...it's one hell of a ride. Glad to see them actually running knobby tires as well:tup: (every 3000 miles they need replacing) I'm looking forward to next week, and buying the DVD and book whenever they're available in this bloody country...lol

The book is available in Canada and has been for some time. Hardback and softback. Hardback is around $40 and contains an array of colour pictures. It's much better to read the book before watching the TV film, which is usually the case. Not sure about the DVD though.

Iwatched the show. Seemed like a slow episode of Lonely Planet with a few bikes parked here and there...This was the Eastern Europe leg...and I stopped watching out of sheer tedium. Not trying to be a sour puss here, but is there some riding or is it a travel show?

Well I havn't seen all the show yet ,so how much riding remains to be seen. Lets face it, they rode around the world, so I would imagine there would have to be a littleriding in there somewhere. 23,000 miles ? I think thatpeople would be better off to record the show and in the meantime read the book and then watch the show after..............I thoroughly enjoyed the read and I don't believe that there is one person out there, that wouldn't do it the same way, knowing that they could makearound 350,000dollars from the venture. The actual amount may have beena lot more, either way it was a nice little earner and I was very envious of their trip. Maybe one day my time will come. In the meantime kick back and enjoy the adventure.

The first couple of shows are like a travel show, but it gets better!! Alot of great terrain, and some places that would really suck to be riding on.

It's a travel show - on motorcycle. An awesome travel show on motorcycle.

It's adventure motorcycling, there's not going to be "exciting spectator motorcycling" scenes. Sure once the roads get rough there's some water crossings and mudholes etc... but it's not GNCC, try speedvision for that. It's an adventure.

Wanna see another some other adventures?
