Depends. What type of riding are you mostly doing? The 300 & 250 make pretty much the same peak power but deliver it differently, the 300 being more tractor-like & the 250 having a more race inspired 'hit'. If you're looking at doing 'A-type' technical stuff I'd consider the 200 with an auto clutch.

I have a 09 300 and had a 06 300 before this one , i love the Tractor power , but it will stretch your arms if you get on it hard. The thing i really like about the 300 is the fact that i can ride it lazy if i want to , like not being in the right gear it will power you through most things , and you dont have to be on the pipe to have amazing power, i could have got a 250 this last time around as ive tried my buddy's EC250 many times , but i just love the power delivery of the 300 and will stay there for the for-see-able future. and the gasser makes a great combination of motor and gearing with the 6 speed tranny Dont get me wrong , it lights up quick too , but it does come on a hair slower than the 250 , but it pulls forever unlike the 250

I had an ec 250...you have to ride it like you mean it! you have to ride it more aggresive and be smoother in your shifts. That said I loved mine! I would propbably go with a 300 next time....Like steve said it will allow you to be a bit lazier and will lug up the technical stuff better. make sure you try the trials tire on the back!

cheers

I have had a DE300 since 2006. The bike has a amazing motor thatis bullet proofand the tougher the terrain the better the bike does.I must vent about the bike a bit though here is a list of my GasGas pet peeves.

  1. the gas cap (buy spares they strip easy)
  2. the gas tank has a silly antisplash deal in it that is a pain at times (gasgas fixed this in 2010)
  3. screws not bolts hold on the rad shrouds
  4. the right side foot peg has clearance issues (improved in 2010)
  5. working on the bike takes patenice(you will finally get to use your 11MM wrench)
  6. resale value (its just bad no matter how you look at it)
Other than that Dave Fair is a good guy who takes care of GasGas riders and there is a great website to help you out with the quirks of the bike over at GasGas Riders.
