So I'm thinking that the bag that came off the back of my bike yesterday may still be waiting for me in the woods. So I'm putting up a this little ad. If anyone is doing some riding in that area, keep an eye out.

What: BMW Tank bag. Full of all kinds of good things....phone, wallet, keys, tools, tubes....
Where: Lillooet River road (marker 31) to Lillooet lake Rd (marker 28)
So heading south on Lillooet River Rd then making a right over the bridgew and a left on Lillooet Lake rd. I believe these are the correct directions. I'll double check with shawn and kerry.
When: June 9th

If I can get it back with the contents I'm offering up a REWARD!!!!! I haven't figured out what yet. I'm thinking something along the line of BEER. So put the word out.

I'm a little foggy as to these directions.
South of pemberton, lilloette lake road, right over bridge crossing "little Lilloette lake" to the west side road, passing the IR reserve on your left...heading towards Tipella, harrison lake. is that it?

You guys went up the west side of Lillooet, eh? Cool! I have always crossed over to the east side just past Tipella (the Port Douglas turn-off) & followed that to the #99.

Nope. I went up a few days ago and walked the whole area looking for it. No signs of it. I'm pretty sure it's gone. I'm really not looking forward to replacing everything that was in it.

May get the bag back after all......

May get the bag back after all......

I'm currently in Ontario visiting family and my girlfriend gets a call from a BC number we don't know, so she lets it go to voicemail. Didn't think anything of it and because we were sitting by a lake, in the sun, drinking a beer and didn't bother checking it. Finally later on we do check it and get a random message from a guy. He wasn't sure who's number he was calling( i had her number as emergency contact). Saying he found a black bag with Callahan Tufts labeled on the inside. Holy Crap! That's me......that sounds like my bag! So I called him back....Got a women who knew the situation and said they did in fact have my bag. They live in Pemberton, but called cause they were in Chilliwack and wanted to drop it off since they were in the area. How nice is that. I was pretty much speechless at this point since I was sure that a bear was eating the trail mix and playing with my camera. Making little home movies of her cubs. Anyways, I told her I'd get in touch with her when I was back in BC and arrange a time to come by and get it. I'll keep ya posted as to weather or not there is anything in the bag.....I'm hoping there is.

What would an appropriate thank you gift be for someone you don't know. I have no idea. Some people don't actually like beer (although that's hard to believe).

How about a gift certificate to a restaurant or theatre or something of that sort?

How could anybody NOT like beer?

Wow!!!!!!! Just when you had pretty much given up on it. I sure hope that all the expensive stuff is still there.

Keep us posted,

I'd be real curious where they found it! I thought we had looked everywhere!
Or had it been pilfered and discarded!
I hope not!
Cheers

.....conclusion to the story.
It has been a while since I posted an update. Not for any other reason than communication with the people that found the bag has been horrible. Calling the numbers they have given me only gets me to the Band office, where I can leave a message. Then I have to hope they get that message and call me back. I have a cell number, but they never have it on since there isn't much coverage in that area. Basically for the last couple weeks I've been calling every other day and leaving a message. I didn't get any calls back. So finally yesterday, I decided I'd just head up that way. I know what reserve they are on since the Voicemail says it when you call. I figure I could just ride up to the band office and ask where they live. So I packed up the bike with some camping gear and a extra set of clothing, and off I go. I left a little late yesterday and took my time. Stopped in Whistler to eat and try catching them on the phone....no luck. Stopped in Pemberton to pick up some beer and dinner and try them on the phone....no luck. At this point it was about 7:30, so I thought I'd head down lillooet lake rd and get a camp spot at on the FS Campgrounds. Ended up stopping at Lizzie Bay. I was the only one there and had my own little beach. It was a great night, and wouldn't you know it, I had a bit of cell coverage if I stood in the right spot.
I got up this morning to the sound of rain, but was determined to put an end to this little saga. I turned on my cell phone and started getting ready for the day. Not 5 mins later the phone rings......."Unknown Number". I usually don't pick those up but I had to. It was a women's voice....she was asking if Cindy was there. I have no idea who cindy was. But this women sounded like the one I had talked to many months ago. I said " This is Cal....the guy with the lost bag". Silence......"Oh hey cal....I was looking for cindy...it's Cheryl (women who has my bag)" The conversation continues on for 5-10 mins since she's on a Sat phone and I have spotty reception. Regardless....we manage to arrange a spot to meet in 20 mins. The big bridge that crosses the lake at 28.5 km. ( If I recall, this was about the area where I lost the bag) So we meet up and I get my bag back, as well as the story of how and where it was found. They found it the same day it was lost.....in fact it was found maybe 2 mins after it fell of my bike. In fact I remember riding by their truck on the way back to look for it. He aslo remembers seeing a couple motorcycles stopped on the road. Apparently they found it in middle of the road, with the contents laying all over the place. I doubt that, since the zipper wasn't broken. They said they put everything back in the bag and then continued on into pemberton. Only weird part is.....when they put everything back they must of missed stuff, cause I know there are a few things missing. And we somehow missed them when we back tracked looking for the bag. Weird things. Like my camp knife, multi-tool, camp headlamp, the cash in my wallet (but my wallet was there), sunglasses and the content on my video camera( which was erased and had a 6 second clip of my bag in their house) Anyways, I got it back....with most of the stuff still there. Case closed.....

That's great news that you got the bag back and that most of your stuff was still there, although it's frustrating that they didn't even bother to stop and see if any of us had lost something since we would have been able to identify it pretty quickly.

Sounds like they were probably bright enough to figure out at the time that the bag belonged to the motorcyclists just up the road but were too enthralled with their newfound loot to have an interest in doing the right thing. Somehow, one of them suffered some pangs of guilt and called you but then later lost the sense of conscience and flip-flopped. So, did Cheryl just drunk-dial your number accidentally when she called looking for Cindy?

At least you got some of the stuff back. How much money went missing from the wallet? I'm guessing the previously-mentioned reward became a "thank you" and a handshake?
