It is a two smoke and simple, four stroke kits are pricier and more complicated. There are aftermarket pipes, carbs etc. available on the net. The stock pipe can be modified for more noise/power. It is available on the web or direct from distributor in Poco(EHBC Holdings 1608 Broadway). They have two options in stock a 48cc or 66 cc. With some mechanical ability it will fit many applications. Still fussing with my application, hope to be riding it to Bruces this weekend if time permits. Check out zoombicycles.com seems to be the website associated with EHBC, they also carry electric bikes. $162 and change for the big block, taxes in.

Test run good aside from catastrophic front tube failure. $378 total including new bike and $7 in extra fasteners.

A turn for the worse

A turn for the worse

What started out as a simple fun project has become something completly different. I fear that this project may have some downsides. I have actually started to...... well.....farkle the bike and suffer side effects of sleeples nights. Tossing and turning while the mind races thinking of ways to convince municipal authorities to build more bike lanes. I've experienced loss of apetite as I fuss over cutting and forming various aspects of the build. I'm sure my DR650 is pissed off. Here's another pic as it sits now while I still work on the chainguard mounting and my dinner goes cold.

Cheers, Alex.

Brakes are adequate(when dry), must resist further upgrades. More bad news, new kit released that allows use of gears on bike. Medical leave denied, supposedly not a recognised affliction, was rudely implied I had bigger issues. This has now spread to a friend of mine , I hope they come up with a vaccine................. I think I can build a mount and carry it on the DR650................%%*&*&%*%*^$@(.

I just noticed this thread and Phoenix you're right it is contagious. They have the 80 cc on for $120 usd minus an internet coupon for 10% off, cost shud be less than $130 cdn all in. One problem pointed out to me is that at 80cc it's way over the size limit set out in the prov. laws re power assisted bicycles. The van police said they would be ticketing anyone riding an "illegally modified" bicycle on the street. The thing looks like such fun and is so cheap it would be worth a few tickets.Have you had any problems with yours, legal or mechanical?

I have had one mechanical issue, a faulty magneto which was replaced under warranty. Service from provider has been excellent. Gas cap vent has been a problem but easy to work around. EPA tests have shown that this kit is not 80 cc's, it is considerably less. The regulations seem to be more speed related, rather than power or displacement (under 49cc). I've not read the specific laws applicable, but have heard that 30 km/h is the max speed before regs become enforcable. The focus I have maintained is that the I'm riding a bicycle and treat it as such and wear a helmet and follow the rules of the road, I have had no issues while pedaling/motoring amongst those enforcing traffic laws. Porting and polishing the exhaust and intake has increased smoothness/power through out the rpm range increasing fuel range and mileage, for short commutes this is a no brainer:D 150 mpg plus.

Chers, Alex.

My intention is to use the motor on the uphill part of my trips to market.I'm a larger sort of fellow (230lbs) and i can ride down hills just fine. How is the power on a steep hill?

Upon reading the regs. of the link you posted,it seems to confirm my build would comply with the most basic facts and objectives and or requirements of stated regs, and I promise not to act like a :f:.
Was surprised to see 70km/h as an acceptable speed for a moped, I gots some tuning to do:).

Yep still running strong. Just have to check nuts and bolts constantly, the little two stoke vibrates like crazy. Only thing to break so far was an internal muffler weld. Getting around 120-150 kms per 1.8 litre tank.
