I still ride my XT350 almost everyday around Burnaby. Coming back from Surrey across the Port Mann today in the afternoon was scary, the cagers were driving way too fast. Actually I'm just dreading the day when the temps go above freezing and that friendly snow turns to scary ice for several days. I run on cheap Kenda Trackmasters on both, but the back has not much tread left now.
Anyone on here who puts in ice screws? I thought it would be too much hassle to do a tire change, but with 15+ days of snow and ice it seems to be a good idea.

Hi Matthew, how's it going? Yes, I still have the burgman 400, but I'm trying to sell it as I sort of lost interest in it when I bought my DS. I did take several ladies out on it who've never been on a moto though and they felt really comfortable...even falling asleep on the first ride. Not one girl relished the idea of jumping on the back on my XT....But its harder to get them on the burgman this time of year anyways. I discovered that all the ladies (that I know) really care about is a warm heater, so its gotta be sooner or later that I get a cage.
I think it would be easier if we in Metro Van could have snow and ice all the time, then we could just get into the routine of the extra suit up, tire screws and not need to change gears so many times a winter.
BTW, can't believe you guys did that loop in "my amazing ride from hell" in just a day. Do you think its a good option to do in 1 day when the daylights longer and the pass is snow free, like June or July? Passes so many cool areas, a newbie DS'r like me could get a good sense of what's available for side routes on the first trip, then later take 3 days on a long weekend and see some more alpine, have some campfires and good meals and that sort of thing.

I have only done this loop the once, but based on this I think it is entirely manageable as a one-day tour. The roads (at least last year) are mostly smooth enough that you can set a reasonable pace, and just cruise on through.
I look forward to doing this loop many more times in the coming season, as well as finding some new ones.

Rick, my 250 is insured year round as well, When things start to melt, I would be up for a couple local rides for sure!!

I couldn't take it. I just needed to ride, so yesterday, I went home to Agassiz on the ol' KLR. After having some carb issues, I made it to my parents' place safely and then my dad wanted to do a bit more riding, so off to Hope we went! In all, I did about 150km yesterday, with another 60km today, coming back home from Agassiz. Today sucked. It was snowing in Agassiz, and blowing on the flats. This, coupled with a slight engine problem that didn't let me idle, made it a stressful ride home.
Even so, I was glad to get out there!

Nice! Toke the DRZ out for a 20 mile ride today but out ice is almost compltely gone on the main roads.

Wow, given the trouble I've had with traction around here on 4-wheels (yes I have 4 snow tires on each of our cars), I haven't considered taking my bike out. Here's what it looks like right now:
