FROZE MY %$& off today..Rode from Tahsis to Gold River and back.Pics and ride report Feb 14/09

Decided that I would try to ride from Tahsis to Gold river today:tup:.It was spring time down here..But I forgot to remember it's still winter in the Mtn's.:shock:To my knowledge no one that I know has been dumb enough to try it this early in the season....So sign me up.:dr:

Liener River couple of KM out of Tahsis.River is VERY low..all the water is frozen up in the Mtn's.

Tlupana inlet...look hard...see the inlet is frozen..and its saltwater!!!!lots of fresh water on surface:ted:.

This is where the ride started to get a little interesting:hr:...At the summit there was about a meter or 2 of snow...and it started to get really,really cold...20 km from Gold River.

This is what I rode on the last 15 km into Gold river...I would have turned back except I was so close:mad3:and needed to warm up.... it was ...VERY,VERY slippery:hr:.

I want to give a shout out to an excellent coffee shop/cafe in Gold River:cf2:..its call Clayworks cafe and gallery...new building,lots of room inside,fireplace,lots of parking,home made everything:br:......Drive into Gold River,drive towards dock,drive over 100 meter bridge and its there on the left....about 1-2 km on main drag past Payless gas station.

Left Gold River almost to late:shock:..it was freezing when I left at 4:30 pm....the water on the Tahsis/Gold River road started to freezefrom thawing during the day:ss:...one of the coldest/slipperiest rides I have been on...It was great to see the lights of home...total distance today almost 150 km.:tup:...still froze my :mb:eek:ff...:)

great pictures.... yikes that looks cold. we are going for a spin on the trials bikes on sundaystay tuned for some pictures... you better ad something to that coffee for the next rip out.

If I did that I'd still be in Gold River:hb:...probably in a ditch:shock:....have fun on your ride...I'll be waiting for the pics.:dr:

Brrr, that ride like that would take me a week beside the woodstove to thaw out from.

You westcoasters are tough SOB's. I think a month in the desert made me soft...or I'm just getting old.

By the looks from your pics I don't think I'll be able to slip through the back way to Gold River for a while yet...

I took the back roads up to Hardy today. It was cold but no snow.... All the road surfaces are frozen like pavement so you can really make time.... I hit one big bump at speed and noticed in my rear view mirror the contents of my topbox in mid air about 10 feet behind me.... I guess I forgot to bungee net the lid. At least all the stuff stayed on the road and out of the ditches...

Thats right Dave...you'll be doing the "Long Way Around" if you want to come over for a rip....there has to be a huge amount of snow on the GR/Woss road:mad3:.

Just got back from Courtenay ( in my heated GMC). I was looking at all those side roads. Yeah...pretty deep still.....
