Wow Trout, nice new scoot! Pity they routed the frame out the side of the gas tank. The price of fashion. When do you install the opposed cylinders? In my day they came pre-assembled. You did snug up the spokes a few times before off-roading right?:spl:

O.K. Maybe it didn't work so well. It fell off in the first five minutes of riding. Perhaps it fell off when I hit that "little" rock that dented my rim.45 minutes later after a long back track, I found it in the middle of the trail.

i boughta quick release aux tank & bracket from pattison suzuki & fabricated a rack with 10'of 1/4 round tube & my plasma cutter,its skookum.375km range with a little luck,a wing& a prayer & maybe a little push.i see [photos] tom has the same tank on his x but it is mounted beside the rear wheel while mine is above the seat.doesn't leak to my surprise,but i haven't tried your bounce testing.i got a true 246 km to bone dry on my very first ride[mainly slab& i'm real light]carried 1 litre in my knapsack,till it died,& no the fuel injection didn't have to be bled,it fired after a few cranks.

Please excuse my PoKe. First, I'm jealous that u can still ride. How much rear air pressure were u using when you pasted that "little"obstacle? However, whilst I do bust a gut at the fuel carrying farkle, could you imagine the novelty of having one of those bunjies latch on to a rear spoke. With all the pennies invested into the Beemie and associated farkle, I question why you didn't walk further down the Wal-Mart aisle and opt for the ratcheting straps. Bunjies are seatbelts for "poor" people that ride KLR's. Fortunately that wasn't a child strapped in. :shock:

Good thing you made it back to theelusive gas tank. Did you end up using it?

Is the MOAB still on? Ihave both modes of transport and might be interested in such a jaunt before my leave is over?

The crazy thing is that I have a ton of ratchet gatgets and strap downs in my basement. I really thought that bungy was super strong.:shoot:I am very lucky that is wasn't too strong because I did find it's remnants wrapped around my rear hub after itcaught a rear spoke.Glad you got a chuckle out of it and glad I didn't do any more damage. Yes, I did use the fuel and then put the tank in my back pack. It gives me an extra 100km or so. Moab is still on. It's mostly a mountain bike trip with a little moto thrown in at the end of the day.

Here is my solution for the tank, not a very good picture but you can get the idea it is mounted on the right side of the bike

It is a Koplin 5.6L atv tank, I make a simple mount, it is out of the way and take about 3 seconds to remove. I have done about 1200 kms of hard off road and no problems. It is out of the way and close enough not to catch your leg when you dab.

Tank and mount is about 70 bucks I now have an ez range of 350+kms

The big test will be Baja

Can you send me a pic of the simple mount you made? I know the tank you're talking about. I am so on a budget right now that I'm going to have to make my $5 gas tank and $20 child seat anchors work for now. I saw the other picture of your kolpin tank and it looks like a great solution. I like where it's mounted and want tostay away from mounting anything up high on therear rack (ther rear rack that I don't have yet).

I kept the child seat anchors that I posted a while back. Still work as great tie down spots.

I also got the TT foam air filter so I'm all ready for the Moab dust now. This is a great dual sport bike. I've been commuting on it all winter and then am able to do some pretty good off road riding. OK, one more picture.
