Just picked up a mint 05 down south....

Can anyone recommend mechanic who is an expert at rigging the xr for dual sport (lights, stator etc...)

I am hoping to find someone moonlighting for a fair rate who can teach a thing or two on the BRP, also want to uncork etc....

Thanks

Well, I would really recommend picking up the parts you need from the guys @ Vancouver Supermoto. They are great, very knowledgeable about what the bike will need and they sell a great looking kit for the guy who dosn't want to make his own wiring harness etc.

Here they sell a kit for your bike - Wiring harness, signals, switches, vapor trail computor/speedo, Battery & regulator... Basically everything you need.

I would have to second that. I had a Dakar kit on my XR650R and it was one thing after the next. got a wiring harness from van supermoto and it rocks. also, they sell a pretty cheap HID light and everything else you may need. they work on a lot of 650's so are very knowledgeable about them.

His own XR650 SM is a work of art.....

OK I went to Mark at Vancouver Supermoto and bought the VSM harness HID light etc, installed it myself and now I am plated all legal on the xr650r. Mark knows his stuff and gave me lots of good advice!

Fortunately the bike was mint which was good news since i bought off the net! runs great starts 1st time most of the time.

The previous owner uncorked it, which i like, man this thing has power and easy to start. However it is very loud, to the point I am worried I will be seriously shunned by fellow dual sporters on the trails. Any suggestions on how to keep the power and lose the excessive noise? Or is it Im just picky and that noise is ok? Ultimately I would like to meet the guideline of 96db and be a good neighbor.

One idea was to get a new exhaust tip that redirects exhaust slightly downward so sound doesn't bounce of the hills or buildings. Anyone tried that?

another is to buy the stock insert ($275) and drill it out only a little bit instead of the hole saw treatment. I heard one explanation about drilling a series of holes that can be filled with a common screw to adjust if it is to loud. Anyone tried that?

what do you have for a silencer? is it stock with the drilled out tip? I have a big gun evo X quiet one and it's pretty quiet. I'm sure that there are lots of quiet silencers out there for this bike.

It is the stock exhaust with the hole saw treatment. Also the two plastic pieces from the air box have been removed and I assume its been rejetted.
