Looking for info on cam tensioner. I have a knock that apparently come from the cam tesioner. Is this A DYI? If so can someone advise me? Had a Kawi dealer adjust it two days ago, but it seems to be getting worse.

Head over to the Kawasaki forum: http://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/klx-250s-71/
Look for the Kreiger cam chain tension adjuster.

The stock tensioner isn't manually adjustable, so I wonder what the dealer did. It can be removed and reinstalled, then allowed to do its auto adjust, maybe that's what they did.

My cam chain got real noisy before it auto-adjusted. Have since installed the manual adjuster. Easy install, adjustment a bit more involved due to access.

Ahhh, what they were saying makes more sense now. I think what they did was help it along, by pushing it up against the chain manually. I realized this once you mentioned the auto adjust. The tensioner will only go one way, to reset, you have to remove it completely and release it (found a link online), so to save myself $25 I can do that myself. Any advice for purchase for a manual adjuster?

OK, so I removed and reset the cam for the adjuster. No dice, still bad. No replacements available and the Krieger will be too late for the Orca run.... whats a guy to do? 5 cent solution... literally. After reading on some blogs that the adjusters are often an issue I though I would try shimming the spring to get just a hair more tension. I used a #5 3/4 stainless steel screw, filed down the head to approx 1/32" thickness, slipped the threaded end inside the spring (perfect fit) and reassembled. Works really well. Just rode 10km and the rattle is almost completely gone. I'll check for excessive wear after 100k to make sure its not too tight. Another 2 cents for the bank.

Some noise is better than no noise.
The stock adjuster design is an issue, that's why the Kreiger manual adjuster came to be.
