2008 610 Throtle Cable

Well, I put in a new throtte cable on my 610. All went well until I put the two cable casing halves together on the handle bars. The hand grip does not spring back when it is turned and it is hard to turn. I lubed the cable before I put it on. It seems to work okay until the final step.

Thanks

Rick

The cable is slightly out of place. Take it apart, study the innards and put it back together. The cable has to lay in the guide tube/channel just right. The assembly has to just right in relation to the throttle tube/grip as well. Not much of an explanation I know but ....

Thanks, I will try puting on the casing with out the cable and see how the handgrips turns. I did try looking at the inside and seeing how it all should fit, etc.

It comes apart pretty quick and then it's a bit of a puzzle. It took me a couple of tries when I put longer cables on mine to get all correct in there.

You are very close don't give up. Something is simply pinching, misaligned or you may have one strand of cable broken and hanging up on the pull open or pull close side of your set up. Keep going til you are frustrated, walk away then come back when you are refreshed later and it will literally fall together.

The throttle grip needs to have a little play at the handlebar end, not much-just a little, or it will drag.

It always takes me far longer than it should to get this fit 'just right'

Thanks a million Guys.

Finally I maxed the amount of slack in cable and it works. It is maxed out and there is no more adjustment left. It still doesn't have what I would call play Shuswap, but I guess it will stretch and it has enough to work now. That is what finally got it working.

Like you said Mad, you have to walk away and come back. I focused on housing, when it was the cable adjustment.

And there was guide for the cable on one half of the housing that I missed at first 250cc, and after your post, I saw it. I would put one half one it would work fine, then I would put both halves on and it would bind.

Again thanks to all of you for your support and advice.

Don't forget to swing the handlebars full-lock left and right and listen for the rpm to rise....a sign that the adjustment isn't properly adjusted!!

Seriously, you do need to check this before riding

I get it, but I had no idea. Just did it and yea, it jumped on right. All fixed now. Thanks!
Good job North!!! You now thoroughly know one more system of your motorbike which may come in very handy up in the forest one day:bliss:
