I am looking at buying a dr650se soon (I am short) 5'5"
I can straddle the bike with boots but not to much of my toes touch the ground.
I feel very uncomfortable.
the dealer told me of a lowering kit that lowers it 2"
Ive also read about a seat that allows you to sit 1.5" lower.
the combo of these two might be to much.
I cannot find any info on the suspension kit.
Ive called dealers all over and no one can tell me about it.
some don't know it exists.
Any one know a part no?
how easy is it to install?
Is it adjustable?
How does it work?
Will it effect the ride?
How much money?

Also the jell seat Ive read about.
Is it shaped different, or is it just softer causing you to sit lower.

Please let me know as I am getting excited to buy.
I will not buy without these answers

Pasul.

When I bought my DR it was lowered already. I changed it back to stock height in a couple of hours. It is pretty easy. Get ahold of a Repair Manual. It illustrates the method to change the rear ride height. The rear suspension travel will be reduced a bit. No extra parts are need with the exception of a shoter sidestand.

There is a Suzuki recommended method on lowing the front requiring dismantling the front forks and relocating a spacer within the forks.I would just slide the forks up in the triple clamps a bit. This way you do not lose any front suspension travel when the front is lowered.

Don't trust the dealers when it comes to lowing the DR. The ones that I asked about changing the ride height were clueless in the proper way to do it.

The gel seat is a little lower than stock. I would be tempted to get a gel seat first...more comfort. See if that is low enough for you....then if need be...lower the suspension.

Hope this helps!

Hey,

It took me less than 1/2 an hour to lower (orraise)my DR650. No cash either.

The stock rear suspension can be dropped 1.75" by removing a bolt and replacing it in a different spot. As PistolPete said just push the forks up through the triple clamps about 1.5".

Corbin makes a seat for the DR that is much more comfy than the stock one.

I have never tried the gel seat from Suzuki.

The Suzuki DR650 is a very good bike. I highly recommend it. It can single track with the best or cruise the highways with the rest!

Actually I have never ridden a more durable, well designed, and well manufacturedmotorcycle!

Good luck !

OK I just got my new 2008dr I lowered the rear shock to the 2ed bolt hole. Easy!
I don't understand what is being said about move the forks through the triple clamps.
there appears no way to slide the forks at all.If the head light was removed then maybe.
can any one give a more detailed explanation.
Ive even looked at a diagram of how the forks are built and I just don't see it.
also I'm looking for a shorter kick stand.

It's got nothing to do with the cunstruction of the forks. Look where they are attached to the bike. There is a lower and upper clamp on each fork near the top.

Simply loosen the triple tree clamps with an allen wrench and slide the forks up close to the handlebars.

Loosen the upper fork boot clamp first to give it room.

Make sure the bike is supported under the frame when you do this. Retorque all bolts to spec when done.

Congrats on buying a terrific bike!

Worth every penny. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago, and my ass has been singing ever since. It makes a huge difference for long trips. With the stock seat my ass hurt within the first hour. Last Sunday I was out for six hours straight without any discomfort.

Buy it from here: http://www.kientech.com/DR650CorbinSeat.htm
