Hey guys,

I found a US dealer that has a couple 09 TE610's on his floor. For those of you that bought one brand new, may I ask what on-the-road ballpark$$$ you paid for it? Please specify if your quoted figures are in CAN or US funds.

Thanks so much!

Just remember you will be paying both taxes, and import fee and having to have it inspected to bring it back to Canada... They look like great bikes though, been considering a 610 as a new DS bike. What dealer?

Even if you don't buy from 5th gear I heard they can act as a importer for you and go trought the imporating and road certification process for a few hunder $$. Might be worth it to save all the hasle you would have to do yourself.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but I would no longer consider one of these bikes until I see how things turn out for Taxguy. You know, to be honest, regardless how things turn out for him the whole scenario stinks & has become a pretty big turn off for me. Sure, I understand we haven't heard Bill's side of the story, but I dunno how much that even matters at this point since we are talking about an entire freaking year of waiting. Really, what could he say?

If you import a new bike from the US, is the warranty valid in Canada?

If there is a warranty.... will it be honoured?

I know when you import a car or truck the warranty remains unchanged...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard a $500 fee is charged by BMW Canadato warranty a new US bike. I'm wondering if other manufacturers have a similar policy.

Your warranty should be valid anywhere, as long as you haven't tampered with anything US model specific, ie some emission control system for Cal. When in doubt get out the Magnifier and have your lawyer read the fine print.
It may take a year to get fixed:Stir

Hrrm, never had an issue dealing with my Toyota's.... Maybe that just because they are better than any other brand ;)

I have never actually made use of a warranty on a motorcycle and have owned 5 new ones over the last 10 years (hondas, ktms and a beta).

I have made use of the warranties on all of my Japanese 4 wheel vehicles all purchased new(88 mazda rx7, 89 honda civic, 90 acura integra, 00 honda accord, 03 honda van). Most minor (<$500) but 2 major (>$1000).

My new 4 wheel NA vehicles (80 Ford F100, 96 Jeep GC, 02 GMC Sierra and 05 GMC Sierra), I have had two issues, a rear seat belt in the 05 GMC was locking all the time, and computers on the 96 GC blew up twice. The jeep was a piece of crap and will never own another, the second time the computer blew up it had just run out of warranty and I had to pay $600.

I'm pretty sure some of the hondas I have owned were actually assembled in NA (probably using Japanese built components), so I guess they could be considered NA vehicles. I think some honda bikes are built in SA and some kawis in Taiwan or ????. Isn't the new BMW 450X using some kind of asian motor (taiwan/china or korea).

My Beta's build quality is as good as any honda or ktm that I have owned and zero problems over the last 18 months, so I have no problem with Italian bikes.

All that being said, I think it is just the luck of the draw. Overall I believe the build quality of Japanese / European based vehicles is better than NA vehicles but they all have the potential to have problems and the dealership selling them should be dealing with any issues in a timely manner.

Back to the original topic there are a number of brands (motorycles and cars) that don't honour the warranty across the border.

Holy sam,how many vehicles can one person own at once??! I would love to see a picture of your yard with all those jammed in there. And then where would the bikes go??

Only two vehicles at once, one for my wife and one for me. Mine was usually a lease with through my business. Bikes are in the garage.

Be sure to check the vehicle admissability list from Transport Canada. Last time I looked the Husky's weren't on there - meaning you can't buy one in the US and register it for the road in Canada.
