O.K. first thing I did was sit on the bike and figure out the hieght,remember to consider this for standing up off road .Then I took some heavy cardboard and cut it to the width and hieght I wanted.I then duct taped it to the headlight cowling.
Now get a stick ,dowel or rod and use this to brace it back to the cross bar,try to make the part of the brace thats connected to the handlebar loose enough so it;s adjustable for up and down,[this is for fore and aft sheild rake]
Now duct tape the heck out of it and go riding.Be sure and take the tape with you.I also took some snips to trim off bits,or to add pieces.Right away you can see how a small adjustment can affect the turbulence,also experiment with the curve,I found the curvature of the fairing to be pretty good.You could use a strip of sheet metal at the upper brace area to help hold it to shape.I found the stock mirrors add a lot of turbulence,maybe round ones would help.
I rode around like that for a month last winter.
O.K. once you get the size and shape you like,take it off and lay it onto the lexan or whatever and cut it to shape.If you use lexan ,you can heat it with a heat gun or in your oven,300 degrees on a cookie sheet ,make sure you have your mitts on and keep an eye on it because you don't want to overheat it,just hot enough to bend it.
Hold to shape until it cools because that stuff has a memory.I attached it to my fairing at the corners ,drill the holes about an inch in.I used some old inner tube washers as a grommet between the fairing and the lexanand use nylok nuts so you don't have to overtighten,just snug.For the backbrace I used a length of 3/8 rod and some old bits from a plexifairing,however a one inch strip of 1/8 aluminum bent toshapewith one nylok at the top with rubber washers and to the crossbar you could utilize a clip like electricians use for conduit.
I have a huge piece of lexan here ,I'll gladly carve you off a piece free
