650 DR Ride on the Weekend

Just a shot from the ride in North Durham, ON and the run toward the local ski hill a few weekends ago. Great weather and a chance to run the bike and burn off the old gas and fuel line stabilizer in the tank.:dude: All in all one of those nice 120 km round trip afternoon rides.

I also need to use up my rear tire before mounting a K760 Kenda Trackmaster which is a tire I have never tried but it looks more fun then my trailwings. A Scorpion Pirelli will be my front tire of choice.

Al:

Yes, I post on the ODSC (Ontario Dual Sport Club) site odsc.on.ca and share the odd picture in the this forum. Why would I bother?

Well two reasons frankly. I want to make you all aware there are some nice riding opportunities here in Ontario and from a tourism and bike lover perspective we all take the bikes on the odd journey. The second reason is I do travel to BC and its always nice to see the ride reports and read the interesting posts from fellow enthusiasts of dual sporting. I really loved my BC off road adventures when I was a POCO resident from 2000-2003 and loved the places I was able to explore for pleasure and for my work which took me all along the coastal communities, the north, Haida Gwaii, and to the interior. It was the rain from November through February with the odd quake that lead me to leave all that awe and beauty found in BC. This summer holds the idea of trailering my DR or my DL out as far as Saskatoon and likely if I do that I'll head to Edmonton and from there in to Jasper and maybe just across the border to BC.

The idea of renting a bike in BC is another worthy option and if I do that it would be nice to be aware in advance of some of the ride venues and events and so I watch this board once a week or every two and subscribe to a few threads for email updates.

The Ontario events I will likely do include a nice ride up to Beausoleil and to Christian Island which is so very scenic and the ferry to the island reminds me on the other side a little of Metlakatla and Lax Kwalaam's. I also plan to ride in to Sudbury and though the terrain is northern shield rugged and perhaps a bit lunar the area holds so many treasure spots to stop and fish or cool off in the lakes and the loop back to Manitoulin Island is scenic. I think it was Cycle World had a nice three page article about riding the largest fresh water surrounded island in North America and so while I have flown in and driven the island several times I want to relax and try the motorcycle and mix in a bit of work amongst my pleasure travels.

Finally, I ride the Ganaraska Conservation Forest and the 300 or so km long trail system shared by hikers and horse riders with a mix of pine lined single and double track trails and my arch enemy the sandy fire breaks and roads. I had a most horrible little droping of my DR last year crossing a creak which was about 2 feet or so deep and applying the brake not more gas ended in a splash and a lesson on dewatering from experienced riders who managed to capture my embarassment on film and video. Sadly, it was my newbie ride but I need so much practise to be able to keep up with many of the better riders and well frankly to feel able to explore deeper and further off the well used routes.

I sense you felt I should perhaps read but not post. I know lurkers abound but hey I figured wade in and share and learn!

Cheers,

Rob

I sneak over to the ODSC and read the ride reports there once in a while. You guys have some interesting riding areas there.

thanks rob

i was just kind of curious, but as i was thinking you have a connection with this area ( having lived here ).

i found a group in the states called dixie dual sport online and planned out a trip that included joining a ride of there's last year.
That trip never happened.

so that is the other thought in my head, maybe you will join one of our events

ohoh
i just figured out that if i highlight the enoticons and click it put it in the post perfect. all this time i have been dragging it over and i had it erase a whole bunch of text that came with it:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

and i see it stays highlighted so i just keep clicking and you end up with a whole bunch of the same ones in a row !!

anyways thanks for the post up
like ken said you never know
