Wingman is moving up in the food-chain.

It looks like there are a cpl different skid plates out there, woundering what is the best way to go...other than the $500 full coverage aluminum one.

Any other needed mods to do?, subframe mounts(or had this been repaired by KTM...HAHAHA), muffler, lever protectors, rear brake master cyl protector, fuel cap, air filter...?
Anyone have the seat brake....a few times ??
Can ya mod the stock pipe?
What all NEEDS to be done to these?

....and sooooooo it begins !!

Over Spung? What did you do to your offworlder? I put in 10% stiffer springs front/rear. the bike feels much much better.

Its not so much the springs (.52 fork, .80 shock) but the valving, as its extremely stiff/harsh. Ian at Riders Edge redid both front and rear, as well as replaced springs and its made the bike much more enjoyable: less fatigue, and now it soaks up the hits (both fast and slow) ! The clickers (compression/rebound adjustment) are now usable - ie: I can adjust +/- for terrain, weight, etc...

I didn't re-valve but I agree it should be done. I am at the extreme end of some of the clickers. I got the fork to work good but the rear shock could use some more help.

Geoff at gp moto here in kamloops is a dsbc sponsor, and he also is part of the riders edge suspension empire.
Ian from Riders Edge will be at the Loose Screw. I'm sure he's looking forward to all your suspension questions. (Bring beer!)

did i mention that Geoff at GP Moto has also been one of our biggest prize donators in the last few years. he has really stepped up with the raffle prizes for the loose screw event, and so we should also step up and spend our money at the shops/dealers that help us whenever possible. it's really nice to have 2 riders edge shops in the interior. thks guys, you do some real magic on suspension!

Aaron at HOLESHOT was great to deal with...the whole place treated us well.

How sweet it is...

We loaded it in the enclosed trailer...strapped down with FOUR straps and headed back to Kamlooops.

He brought his gear (cept the boots)as we planned to stop at the Larson hill riding area so he could try it out.
Wouldn't ya just know it...... We opened the door and the bike with ZERO km on the odo was laying on it's side with a broken rr signal light and a bent rh mirror. HA, "The first one hurts the most"!!

Oh well......no problem, still HAPPY.

Nice ! 690 is an awesome ride !
I addition to the plate and pipe (Bryon has these on his list), these really arent optional, but obligatory extras:

- rad guards:http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-enduro-smc-radiator-protection-76535940000
- CJ Designs gas cap:http://www.cjdesignsllc.com/products/billet-fuel-filler-neck-ktm-690-990-smt/
- gel or custom seat: http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-enduro-smc-ergo-gel-seat
- rear brake cylinder guard: http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-enduro-smc-rear-master-cylinder-protection

...and a few simple mods (most of which are well detailed here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15358409&postcount=10):
- canisterectomy
- slicing the fork protectors (vertically on the rear) so they come off without having to take the forks off !
- protecting the fuel line from rubbing against frame at quick-connect connector
- radiator fan shroud and blades wearing into radiator (need to be checked)
- remove rad guard bolts, and use zap straps: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15358409&postcount=10

Seems like a prety good bang for the buk, money refunded if not used, 11 months from purchase date to buy it.

Did all the 690's have this 9 position maping switch?

Yup, and with the Trail tech bar mounted switch - its actually usable !
Great on steep loose climbs, as you can switch to "Mild" (vs. "Stock" or "Wild"), and get less wheel spin.

The only thing you cant do with the Trailtech switch is activate the low octane/quality fuel mode (which you can do with the under seat switch)

Offworlder, does that switch work on the fly or do you have to kill the engine to switch maps?

FYI, the map switch does not change the fuel or timing maps but only the electronic throttle maps. The advanced setting is about 1:1 so what your wrist says the engine gets. The standard and soft settings tone the throttle down much like putting in a different (smaller diameter) cam at the throttle tube.

It is interesting to know that there is a fourth throttle map for when the bike is in neutral or the clutch is pulled in and this map is very soft. I found that when you get into a tight spot and start fanning and slipping the clutch the bike often flames out. Part of the reason on my 2009 was the throttle maps.

see http://www.dualsportbc.com/forums/showthread.php?9795-TuneECU-for-your-EFI-KTM&highlight=tuneecu for more info.
