91 DR650 Top end noise

Help.. Im not sure if it's normal for my 91 DR650S to have such a noisey top end sounds harsh at mid rev. valve/chain noise is quite noticable.I took it to coquitlam Suzi and the gal said it's normal but mine is a little louder than she heard before.She tuned it and said everything was ok..ie timing/valve settings/chain tention.

I tried 20/50 oil but it didnt do much .I realize it's air cooled but other bikes i've owned didnt sound so harsh. I hope and pray something doesnt let go one day and Kaboom!:X

HI the valve trains on the older dr 650 make a racket to start with i have a brand new rebuild in mine its no swiss clock but they very depenable are you sure the noise is coming from the top end and not the timing chain on the left side they are manually adjusted unlike the cam chain has it gotten louder since you have owned the bike .

I bought the bike last year with 3663 km. I broke it in easy,Now it has 13000km and It seems to be a bit better In fact the whole bike feels better slightly worn.It was stiff and querky at first. I didnt know the cam chain was manualadjust good to know! The noise is on the left side. It seems there wasn't a manualor even a pipefor the 91-93 or so model..:? Thanks

the cam chain is auto adjusted thru the little block on the back of youre cyl barrela.k.a cam chain ajuster.its the timming chain a.k.a balancer chainthats on the left side of youre engine wich is manually adjusted.suzuki recamends inspection every 4000 mi.butdo itat the end of the season its a winter thingas for pipes they were produced but due to drops in sales they were discontiued . as for a manuel i can scan mine if you wood like and send you the pages via email mine covers years 90-95 it is the factory shop manuel from suzuki.

Ya I have a couple shops looking for a pipe that might be lying around someplace? or maybe find something close and have it bent or modified to fit.. The manual would be awesome!:dr: My email is [email protected]

Just for the record, it is still possible to buy a Suzuki shop manual for the DR650 that covers models 90-96. Cost should be $70approx. I bought one for Annie Sunday last year...........................PIRATE

I bought the manual from a dealership in Ontario. However any dealership should sufice. Be a little persistent with the people you're dealing with and they should come up trumps. Don't forget this is the Suzuki manual and not a Clymer........Good luck!

And I'd like to see your 93 DR650 it looks like mine only stoked! There rare I guess I havent seen to many white / blue frame Dr's. Now I can do some over due maintanance stuff. My bike sat for 13yrs so i have lots to do.
