I put my 45 tooth sprocket on my 950 Adv. this morning and then took it out for a ride to see what difference's it made. Stock is 17/42
I was at 16/42 I am now at 16/45
2 things became very apparent
1 - It is VERY COLD in Kelowna this morning
2 - KTM 950 Adventures have a 6th gear.
Here are my findings. (these speeds are actual (GPS) not indicated (KTM speedo)
Idle in first gear - 10 kms / hour
5000 rpm (sweet spot on my bike) in 6th gear - 120kms/hr
5700 rpm in sixth gear - 130 kms/hr.
4500 rpm in sixth gear - right around 106 ish which is where I like to keep my speed on the highway most of the time
So,,,here is my thinking. If I was cruising most of the time in 5th gear at 5000 rpm and now I can cruise most of the time in six gear at 4500 rpm shouldn't my fuel mileage increase? Also I have lowered my first gear gearing so It should be very nice to ride in the bush
I am very pleased with the results keeping in mind that I have only ridden the bike for 10 minutes in sub zero conditions. Next spring will tell
I am going to go and take a HOT shower!
