any Honda NX owners out there? NX125, NX250 or NX650?

anybody else out there? I've got two NX250's and an NX650. great bikes that do have a bit of a following. just picked up the 650 from Ohio because they're impossible to find in Canada.

I like them because, well, I like Hondas and I wanted an electric start dual sport that's 25+ years old so I can get ICBC collector plates. the 250 is $125 insurance, for a full year.

they're an interesting bike. the '88 250cc engine was a liquid-cooled one-off that puts out more power than a 2013 CBR250R.

the 650cc is the same engine that has been and is still used in the XR650L.

the first pics are the 250's, last is the 650.

I must just like weird Hondas. I also have two '77 CT125's.

looks like a honda version of the klr 650? I'm suprised they don't still produce them? Or do they, and just not import them to our side of the pond? It would be real nice to see someone build a modern day well suspended, disc braked, decent reliable ( think klr but more power) 650ish light weight dual sport bike.

I got my license on an nx125 almost 25 years ago, loved that thing and rode it everywhere. It was the nicest bike I'd owned up to that point. Seemed like a technological wonder after a 78 xr100.

they still are a technological wonder in a lot of ways. the KLR of the same year had less power and more weight, and was kinda ugly

all the NX's, 125, 250 and 650 were imported to North America only in '88 and '89. the 650 'Dominator' continued in Europe until 2001. not sure about the others. they're a ridiculously easy bike to ride. the 250 and 125 even have six speeds. in Europe the 250 and 650 also got a rear disc and a few other goodies. I suspect that Honda sold a more basic version here to introduce them at an attractive price point. remember, in 1988 'adventure touring' as such wasn't what people thought about. you either bought a dirt bike or a road bike.

back in the day Honda couldn't give them away in the US and Canada. if they built it now you'd have to line up for one. in truth an XR650L or XR250L is a better dirt bike, but for a true dual-sport the NX certainly fills the niche. a few simple/cheap suspension upgrades do wonders for the dirt manners. a few hundred miles of pavement are perfectly comfortable and hit the trails at the other end.

google images for 'Honda Dominator'. these things came in an incredible number of color schemes. unfortunately the 650's have become very popular with the 'scrambler' crowd so a lot are getting modified.
