I will probably have to replace my stock tires this year. Everybody over here on the island has been switching to Mitas. Unlike that bunch I will continue to use my bike more for street, and so the local dealer still recommends for my use the Avon tires. Whatdo you guys think who may have used the Avon tires? Better yet how about if you havehad a chance to ride both?So far I have heard that they are a touch harder and last longer than most, which is probably why they are not as good on wet pavement. Let me know what you guys think.:ted:

I ran Gripsters on my KLR. Great on dry pavement - have you dragged the pegs on your KLR yet? You can with those tires!

Wet dirt - not good, wet pavement, well... the call them Slipsters for a reason :shock:.

I got about 13,000 Km out of mine and they look like there's another couple of thousand Km left on them. I won't put them back on though. Not worth it for dry weather, pavement only tire on a dual sport. I'd look at Avon Distanzas or Metzler Tourances if you want to street oriented tire for the KLR with better (safer!) wet surface performance.

Considering I'm your classic 31" inseam short shit, and had the lowering kit put on yes I have dragged the pegs a few times. I have no real interest in doing tooo much more than logging roads and simple single tracks so I want mostly street biased tires. I haven't heard the 'slipsters' to be bad choice, but Doug that's why I'm asking.

By the way I am now looking into a local bicycle welder to now copy and build a rack for the Axiom saddle bags. The local Kawai dealer soldmy wifea Xmas present for me of anice rack system, $200 nice. So I a checking out this local little independant welder who does a lot of this on the side, and cheaper. Maybe even get him to produce a template or prototype of a Moose skid plate, and again cheeeeaper.

If I get lucky the whole saddle bag thing or skid plate could cost up to half as much, and I can just see orders for those if he can make them.

Not tyring to hijack the thread here but....
Keep me posted on the local welder scenario. I'm trying to figure out how I want to setup my luggage for long hauls. Right now I'm leaning towards DirtBagz with a big ol' ortlieb dry duffle bag, but I'm not in a big rush and haven't written of any suggestions. If the price and quality are right, I might be interested....

No problem. Don't listen to the gals, guys can multi-task as well. I have plans to meet the welder on thursday before the meeting in case he can size up the job and price it out. Stay tuned.
