Bike Alarms?

it seems all I am hearing about up here in Vancouver since I movedis how I need to securemy bike to a steel postthat is cemented 20 meters into the groundwith ship anchor chain and keep it gaurded by a an ex marine with an itchy trigger finger and a hungry and pissed off pit bull if I expect to retain my bike in my possession. damn.



any comments on bike alarms?

yeah, it would be effective but a major pain in the ass to haul around-

A bike alarm to me seems that it would be effective and there are quite a few out there butall seemingly marketedto the go fasts that are not going to see the merciless beatingthat I am planning to put my dual sport through.



so anyone, do you have one? does it work? did ya break it? just looking for a litttle insight...

i just run a big padlock through each brake disk with a string attached to the handlebars to remind me.

bike never got stolen, mind you it's 25 years old, but still it's one hell of a drag-racing engine.

i don't think klrs are that stolen, i mean, most ppl steal bikes for the parts to put on just another crotch rocket cuz they crashed and need new plastic, new wheels or new engines. your average thief would be too short to ride a klr anyhow and it's not a "cool" bike so not very stolen i'm just guessing though. anyone have any statistics?

Not sure how an alarm would stand up to off road abuse. I installed an alarm on my old ( new at the time )RC30 and it did it's job whenI was in Holland for the 500Gran Prix. At2am itwas wailing away and when I hung my beer swollen head out of the window of the hotel, I saw two guys running across the car lot. Maybe they were just looking, but maybe not.It never gave any trouble, yet afforded that extra peace of mind, butI wouldn't rely on an alarm by itself............Failing that you could always move to Nanoose Bay. Appears to be very civilised here!!
