clutch friction plate thickness

Installed a rekluse exp 2.0 in the drz 400 today . So far so good. Checked the old clutch plates while I was at it. Question I have is the method to measure the thickness of the friction plates. The fiber pads on the plates are staggered so with the min serviceable being 2.62mm does this measurement include the backing plate and a single friction pad or does it include the backing plate and pads on both sides. You can measure it both ways. I checked out some photos on thumpertalk and it appeared they had the caliper on an angle so it included a couple of pads on both sides of the plate. If this method is correct then the measurement would include the backing plates and pads on both (2) sides.

Mine are around 2.85 if I include pads on both sides but 2.45 for the backing plate and a pad on one side only. ????

Anyone know for sure,

Thanks,
