Just did mine last week on my 2003 at 25000 km. The lever and spring were both busted. They couldn't find one small part of the lever, as well as the spring
. Any advice from anyone who has encountered losing these bits? The mechanic recommended a couple of oil changes (w/o filter) for the next 200 km in the hopes of flushing it out.

With a bit of luck, the bits are on the other side of the engine trapped at the oil screen. If this is so, they shouldn't be able to do any further damage from this point on, although of course not guaranteed. It would be worth draining the fluid and removing the required parts to check, which is easy enough,then do the oil and filter change.

Thanks for the info. I had the oil and filter changed at the same time, and the mechanic was in the oil pan with a magnet and didn't find the bits. Oh well, it's still running better now. I'll just have to wait and see.

I have heard this many times and still don't understand how this can be. All the doohickey does, is take up the slack in the balancer chain and prevent any chaffing from the chain and any possibility of the chain jumping a tooth. However, I will take your word for it............In the meantime, go Crouch.

I was lucky enought to get both parts of my broken Tensioner Spring out from their respective attachment locations.
But I was really concerned to see that the loose spring was being rubbed by the tensioner chain. I don't know what this would cause over the long term but it can't be good to have a slack chain and a loose spring that is showing signs of getting worked over at high rpms.:shock:

I just changed the clutch in my new usedbike and found the tip of the spring in the screen.
Any one have the wrench to disassemble as every wereI look they are sold out and would hate to have to wait 14 days to get the tool and parts?

Where are you located? Many of us have tools and expertise....
If you're doing the Doo' be sure that you order the optional torsion spring as it is an improvement over the extension spring. I have one awaiting installation when time and motivation allows as I did the Doo a couple of years ago with the replacment Eagle set. I still plan to replace the extension spring with the torsion but it isn't a high priority to tear it down at this time of year.
I'm in Chilliwack, have the tools,and I know ofa puller and holding wrenchin Abbotsford.

I live in tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
I have the complete kit on order at Arrowhead but he tells me I am looking at 14 days for delivery.
II do have a second bike that had the kit installed but has a burnt out wrings.
Any input would be great.

Hi i m in Campbell River, i do have 2 brand new aftermarket springs(the ones you r going to receive with the kit) i did not need them since we(ok i have to be honest Norm on his own) installed the torsion spring on my bike.
from my understanding the major risk is to have bits moving around in the engine...i guess u ve got one...
