DRZ400S Skid plate

Howdy folks. Thanks for all the posts with the valuable info on these bikes. I just put a set of mt21's on it as well as changing the sprockets. I went with 12 front 49 rear and i'm lovin' it. I can only top out at 80 kmh but i live at the bottom of mcnutt so hence the gearing choice. My question is i now need a skid plate for those trails and would like to know if the dirt and street versions of the drz400 will take the same skidplate. Thanks for the help and hope to meet some of you on the trails.

12 x 49 is insane man! No matter what, it's still a DRZ in McNutt!

Indeed, skid plate will be a good idea. There are no differences across models as to skid plate fitment. I suggest you go with one that bolts into the existing mounting holes. The ones that use the frame clamps are fiddly to get on & off.

If McNutt takes one of your rads; you are out $300. The Unabiker guards cannot be beat.

What's next? Jetting and the IMS footpegs?

I run the Moose skidplate on my S and it has saved me a few times at Mcnutt. The rad guards are a must there too and also some side case protection.

Yeah your right 12 49 is insane but you need to be insane to ride a drz at mcnutt. My arms should be the size of my legs in no time forcing that kind of weight around those trails. Thanks for letting me know about the skidplate. i will be also getting the rad gaurds very soon as well. i've been lucky so far. I really enjoy the technical stuff at mcnutt. I used to run mcnutt with the stock tires so you can imagine how often the bike spent lying on its side! I'm quite happy with the mt 21 of pirelli but i'm sure there are cheaper tires out there. Thanks for the reply's and hope to see some of you up there.

Dude, that's insane gearing :tup:Unabiker rad guards are a must, so are CFC case savers, and I would recommend a Devol skid plate, the best in my opinion....and it bolts into the existing bolt holes:clap:. IMS footpegs are a great idea as well, they're alot wider than stock, speaking of stock items, you've tossed your stock handlebars right? Doing the 3x3 airbox mod and rejetting is a must do to open the breathing in the engine. Enjoy your bike, McNutt is a great area to ride:hb:

Hey malachi. I haven't tossed the stock handlebars yet as i was waiting for them to bend to see what it looked like. I am looking for bar risers because these bars are way to low for that kind of riding. I might also get somew high rise bars later. I love riding up there on mcnutt!
