Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and new to owning a bike. I just baught a 84 dt200 and have a couple questions. The marker and tail lights do not seem to work. I have checked the bulbs they are all ok. I can only find one fuse which is the bullet fuse tucked in the rubber battery holder, and it seems fine.Are there any other fuses? The headlight works high/low. The lights in the dash work. I am thinking it may be the handlebar switch. Also the horn does not work.

What do you think is the problem? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Check the cheap stuff first!!! That's an old bike so I would start by taking the switches apart and checking the contacts and connections for corrosion. If this fixes the horn and not the signals I would move on to the flasher relay for the signals. Not being too familiar with the DT, look for more fuses (mine are inside the battery box beside battery), also check under the seat or tank. Good luck!!

I had the switch apart and it seems to be relatively closed up. I was not able to get to the contacts for the slider for the signals. I will try again and maybe put some dielectric grease in there. I will do the same for all the connectors that I can find. The tail light is not working as a running light or as a brake light. I was talking to a tech at the local shop here and he suggested that it maybe the break light switch on either the foot peddle or the handle brake. He thinks it may be causing a fault somewhere? I will check into this as well. I appreciate your advice. I will keep you posted.

I took it into a local dealer here in Okotoks and they found the problem right away. The battery was toast. They replaced the battery for $15. Everything is working great now.:dr:



I do have another question for those DT owners. The Guy that had the bike before me chopped up the rear fender to get rid of the license plat holder. I was wondering if there is a rear fender from another model bike that would fit. Maybe a XT, something a little easier to find.

Hi , I have an 84 DT 200, they like to overheat in summer with the single rad, I bought a 12 v fan from princess auto ( computer type) and installed it with a switch on the shroud, works perfect!

A tt225 fender from the same vintage bolts on and looks great. I had an 84 DT for 14 years. The electric fan idea work good for me, mount it on the back pulling. I also cut the fake louvers in the shroud into real louvers that helps with the cooling.
