fixing leak in water pump?????

DRZ 400 with the usual coolant leak coming from water pump cover. We have taken the 4 small bolts off from the cover and have it removed. The impellar is there and we are able to move it about 1/2" out and then it just stops. Does anyone have info. about removing this part of the water pump. It seems logical that it should just pull out but is not.

Please help.

You should cosider getting a manual before disassembly or find instruction on the web. The impeller will have a drive gear on the back side of the water pump housing and it is easy to damage pump gears and impellers by improper removal or attempting to force apart. Once disassembled I would suggest replacing seal(s), gaskets and possibly the w/p shaft if it is pitted or grooved.

Best of luck, it is not difficult, just proceed carefully.
