Gentlemen (and Ladies),

Here's the scoop: Long time rider, but new to dualsport. Just dove in head first and bought a used 950 adventure (after much research). Sweet...

Used to doing my own mechanics, but wouldn't mind a coach for this new, tricky bike. Just some basics: oil & filter, brake fluid and pads, clutch fluid, new coolant, and in particular, fork oil & seals.

YOU WILL BE HANDSOMELY REWARDED FOR YOUR EFFORTS WITH BEER, PIZZA, SUSHI, STEAK, SCOTCH, WHATEVER...

Basically, we'll just book a Sunday and go through the motions, and I'll make notes. Most of this stuff should be straightforward, just want to be warned if there's any traps to watch out for.

thanks in advance,

jwl

congrats on the new bike. If you want, I can give you the shop manual CD for the 2004 MY.

In general, for most things its not much different from most other bikes once you get past the bodywork.

And a bit of good news... you don't need to remove the fuel tanks to change the oil... as per owners manual.

And a bit of not so good news... keep an eye on the coolant level and colour, you do need to replace the water pump every 15000 to 20000 km (so many has failed that, last year, KTM has simply made water pump replacement a maintenance item rather than warrantying em)

anyway, I will try to make it out to breakfast this Sunday... http://www.dualsportbc.com/forums/forum16/4259.html and give you the manual and briefly go over the bike. Can you make it?

That's awesome - thanks for the offer. I'll do my best to make this Sunday work. BTW there is another 950 owner who has contacted me who is also hoping for coaching. So maybe the three of us could chat for a while. (There you go: more beer for you with no extra effort :).

The link you posted doesn't seem to work for me... could you repost it please?

And looking forward to Sunday.

Thanks Phoenix.

OK looks great. See you Sunday at 9am. Alas, I'll be in my car. (Damn! Oh well...).
We'll have to look at FROG950S's bike for demonstrations - he's the other fellow who'll be coming also.

Hey TOHC2: what's your favourite beer?

thanks in advance,

jwl

Damn! I wanna go on that ride also. Tried to do it about 2 weeks ago but: a) there was a million other yahoo dirt bikers zipping around, so I decided to leave and b) the trail appears to be officially closed! There is a sneak-around-trail off to the left that will get you past the gate - is that the way to get through?

I felt kinda miffed because I just wanted to quietly tick along and enjoy the scenery and go down to the end. The trail had been closed because of "environmental damage", obviously caused by all the yahoos tearing up the place... :mad3:

This a very challenging ride C+ TO B+ From what I can see .

Water xsing up to my seat last weekend Avalanche area with trees and rocks up to 20 foot high (mostly cleared ) except the last one where We pile rocks for 1 hour with

no succes. Bridges missing ect .ect.

They closed it because of the bridges are out and very risky to cross .......:wi:

1. Sorry you couldn't make it to the end.

2. That looks like SOOOOOO much fun.

3. You guys are pretty core.

4. Where did you get those cool pants? Are they waterproof? Are they camo?

5. So the trail is closed because of the "trail damage", meaning natural weather damage, not dirtbiker yahoo damage. OOOOOhhhhhhhh... That's good to hear.

6. You figure that this time you'll be able to go the whole way through? Why? Less water now?

7. Was I right about the entrance to the trail? Big gate closing it off, and you go around to the left, then up this steep, curvy little trail and you're gone?

later,

jwl

The water might be a bit lower but we were actually thinking of bringing some shovels & doing some trail building.

The bypass is actually the trail to the right, it goes up then takes a quick left & up onto the road. It's pretty chunky though.

Hope you can make it.
