Just bought a 1994 "Barbie" about 3 weeks ago with 44000kls. Filled up the tank with fresh fuel, reset the trip, & figured I'd see what kind of mileage I would get. Left the house today on a short run with approx 300 kls on the tank of fuel,figuring when it runs out I'll switch to reserve. Well, it ran out about 10 kls from home, switched to reserve-nothing. Will not start.

Rocked the bike back & forth, switched back to the on position & got another 1 kls. Now it is totally dead.Cranks in on or reserve-no start. Pulled the fuel line off & cranked-small amount of fuel in on position, none in reserve. Thankfully,
a fellow worker just happened to drive buy right at this time & gave me a ride to get some fuel. Topped her up with fuel & away I went. My question is- does this sound like a bad fuel petkock? Guess I should have checked the reserve position before assuming it would work!

Maybe a dumb question but........

Are u sure u had it in the "on" position and not the "Rez" position. I have seen people do that before, mistaking the long part of the lever for the pointer and missing the marker on the opposite end of the arm. My DR650 uses the long part of the lever as the position indicator.

Yup both of mine have been such that the long part is the pointer, and down is on, and pointing forward is reserve.....Joker is smarter than he looks :hr::)

Hi guys, Town fool here!!! Joker hit the nail on the head. My old Honda street bike had a pointer opposite the long handle. The klr650 has a pointer on the long handle,so when I switched to what I thought was reserve, it was actually in the off position. Ran it today in reserve for 5 min. & all ok. Thanks guys:clap:
