Gel batteries

I saw this post and did some digging. The main advantage of the gel battery is that vibration doesn't bother it as much as traditional batteries - for off roading (high vibration) they tend to stand up better. Also if you tip it over it's not going to leak out everywhere ie gels are more crash proof.I've seen XR 650L's with small gel batteries placed in small home-made battery boxes which save a signfigant amount of weight.:dr:With no kickstart I'm a bit reluctant to try this mod to save a few lbs. That being said the gel battery isn't "stronger" for it's size then a regular battery it is however lighter.
Most auto supply stores would have them - I'm partial to Napa but then again I work for them and don't want to pimp my store without paying for an ad space

I bought an Odyssey for my KLR from a battery shop on Boundary Rd in Van, can't remember the name (probably something like "The Boundary Rd Battery Shop" knowing my luck) Haven't had any problems with it at all.
You have to mount it sideways (on it's end?), but the cables and wires are long enough to reach. There is a small issue with the fuses, you have to wiggle them in between the side panel and the battery itself. But if you by-pass all that and make a blade ATO (?) system work, you will have no worries, you can make the wires as long a needed to keep the fuses safe.
I don't use a charger/tender, and my bike sat in the garage for over a month at Christmas, and started right up, with no hesitation.
There are 2 kinds you can get, metal jacket and plastic. I have the plastic, and have had it for a while, no leaking or even wearing issues.
