Headlight out?

OK, here's a question. I am terrible at electrical situations.

My headlight and tail light will not come on. I have the aftermarket turnsignal switch, theindicators and the horn work, so I know the switch is good. I have an aftermarket LED brakelight, and it workswith both front and rear lever applications.

I (now) own the manual, but it doesn't go into ANY detail about this type of situation, and I'm a little pissed about this.

Just wondering if anyone has run into this, and what might have caused it? I checked all the fuses, bulbs, connectors. I found 2 relays, 1 by the front right connector cluster, and one by the top of the kickstand (starter relay?).

Any help would be good, I want to ride at night, and be seen!

I know how frustrating this can be having chased a turnsignal problem for a couple weeks with not much luck. Turned out it was a broken wire. Have you dropped the bike recently? Something may have broke or rattled loose.

it would be helpful to know when the problem started. after installing the after mkt. parts or prior. also if it happened after the installation, how much time after. days weeks months. have you got access to a test light. basically a bulb and wire. this could be used to tap into the system along the wires route to determine if there is a break in the wire. for finding a short you are better off with a volt meter. i hate electrical gremlins as well. i believe the brake light is on a different circuit but not sure about it. i'd also see what kind of power you have coming off the ignition switch. and with those LED set ups they are very specific in which side gets power versus grounding. i got some in my truck and the bulb will not light if polarity is reversed. perhaps you have the bulb in wrong. Ed

I found the problem. A test light showed no current on one of the fuses in the underseat box (little black one)

The fuse looked good, no breaks, clean ends, but a closer inspection found a rusted out end inside the fuse itself. I replaced it, and the H-light came back. Along with the tail light and dash lights.

I broke the glass on the old fuse, the one end wasn't even connnected anymore.:mad3: It looked good,no sign of failure, but there ya go.

You may wish to replace the stock Buss type glass fuses with some ATO or mini fuse holders relocated to the left frame tube. This solution will allow you to use sealed fuse holders and access the fuses with seat on.

The glass tube (Buss type) fuses are not great at resisting corrosion and the newer ones are often very poor quality. The KLR fuse holder is not sealed so corrosion can be an issue.
