There is a special tool that you need to take apart the Dr 650 forks. A T-tool I believe.

Does anyone know the dimensions of this tool.

I have heard it is a 3/4 square bar 50 mm long filed down to 10 mm on each side on the bottom. with some sort of extension to go down the tube.

The bike we are changing the fork seals on is a 1991 Dr 650.

Or......will it come apart if we just use an impact on the 8mm socket bolt on the bottom of the forks.

I hope this is making sense to someone and they can give me some advice.

Thank you

ps a picture of the special tool would be fantastic.

Try loosening the bottom bolt a bit before you remove the fork cap and spring, often the tension of the spring will keep the rod from turning... I also tighten them by putting the spring back in the tubes and pressing it into the wall or floor to hold tension on the rod...
