Me again. First off, thanks to Big White DR & malachi for your advise, I followed it and found a host of problems from a "greased" air filter to a rip in the carb diaphram (dual port carb - 1 side mechanical 1 side vacuum). I cleaned the tank, emptied and cleaned the carb and set the float and replaced the ripped diaphram ($90 yamaha). But nothing has fixed it, if anything it is worse. the bike will idle fine and can rev it in the drive way but has got NO power on the road. Can't even get it out of 1st gear. I then checked the valve lash which is at .008" hot. Does anyone know what it should be? does anyone have a manual for this bike that they would like to sell me? Need some pointers or maybe is should point this bike into the river and get my cr480 back. ANY help would be appreciated

Hold your hand near the exhaust outlet and rev the engine, how much pressure do you feel coming out? If not much you could have a rust clog in the pipe. Valve lash of .008" isn't out of the ballpark although the engine should be cold when checked, .006" is spec for my KTM. Are you sure all passageways are clear in the carb? No folds in the slide diaphram? Vents to the carb open? Slide needle in the proper position? Another thing to check is that your auto decompression release is properly adjusted, if the cable has no slack it may be holding your exhaust valves open. If all of the above ok I would have a compression test done on the cylinder. Good luck. One other thing is to check the intake manifold for cracks that could let air to leak in causing the engine to run lean.
