Hi there guys, (and girls if there are any) my name is Kevin, and I'm new here. I know I signed up a long time ago when I was looking into dualsports, but now I'm back. I'm going to buy a new bike this month. As of right now it's either the new KLX250S or the KLR650. I understand they are totally differant type of bike and I like the differant sides of both. The one thing thats stopping me from going for the 650 is the cost of insurance. So now it comes to the question at hand... How much do you pay for insurance? on your >400cc? or <400cc? also what kind of discount do you have?

Any info is very much appreciated, and I hope to meet some of you at an upcoming event on a new bike!!

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin, just renewed insurance on my klx250 and paid 327 for basic (I have goldstardiscount). Went to Megson Fitzpatrick for the balance which was around $500. If you go to your local insurance broker, they'll give you a quote which might help you out before you buy. Debbie

Welcome back Kevin. I just renewed my 05 KLR650, and the Beacon portion of the fire&theft for the year was about $330( based on $5500 value replacement w/$500 deductible), and the ICBC for 7months was about $450ish. Hope that helps.

over the years i have insured all three of my bikes with Megsons. they were considerably cheaper then icbc's optional insurance.

this year i insured my bikes through a fellow rider. he owns Cassells Insurance. going through Beacon insurance,Paul saved me more money compared to Megsons.

for example

06 vstrom1000 megson= $402+ $25 broker fee, $1000 ded
beacon= $300+ $25 broker fee, $500 ded

07 husky 610sm megson= $377+ $25 broker fee, $1000 ded
beacon= 300+ $25 broker fee, $500 ded

if you pass Beacon's basic requirements, the savings are even better then Megson. these quotes are for full replacement value.

Cassells Insurance is in Vancouver at Broadway and Cambie

604-876-0126.

give him a try, he's very professional, and a pleasure to deal with.

can you provide your address. i like a bike that can't be stolen. NOT. as my old man used to say if you skip the theft, do so cause you can afford it. even though my bike is 9 years old i still insure against theft. never been stolen yet though. knock on wood. Ed

paid $205 for 6 months basic w/ 1 mill liability.opted out on $180 (basically a buck a day) for comp. thinking it might be worth the coin to rest my thoughts a little easier when i am away from my bike. even though i live in a chill lil area of the west koots, you never know. had my plate stolen yesterday...so it goes.

I'm sort of balancing between Alberta and BC residence ....was paying about $158.00 for basic coverage for 12 months in Alberta (KLR650) ..was quoted $700 + in BC!!!
Bloody fascist rip off! I don't understand why the citizens of BC put up with such an unfair system.

Cheers

Gentlemen,

Well, I think I'm getting burnt for insurance now. I'm paying just over 100 a month to insure the 08 KTM 450 excr. No colision but everything else. I guess ignorance is bliss.....

Claw - what are you getting hit - are you doing the optional coverage through our local corporate monopoly?? :shoot:

IthinkI paid around 390 for the year with zip coverage. no one can really drive over here any ways hence why i own a body shop. different areas are different rates.Try looking into private coverage for your comp and collision.Or keep comp andno matter what happens your bike catches fire.

Not really trying to 'burn' the system...but really resent being 'burned' by the system.
I don't understand how BC residents put up with such a Fascist no-choice system!

I fully appreciate some regional differences etc...but from $158.00 to + $700.00...that is out and out extortion! No Question!

The insurance Co.'s in Alberta are not humanitarian guardians offering a service at below cost...they are must be making something at $158.00 per year (solely third party liability) ICBC are literally 'F---ing' over the motorcyclists in BC!

I am thankful that I still retain an Alberta residence. It is no wonder that 'Government' is desperately trying to restrict firearm ownership. Canada has never really had a true revolution.

When the so called 'ruling elite' gets so far removed from the reality of the man in the street...history has proven time and time again that heads will role...and history has a way of repeating itself.

I am not advocating armed anarchy over ICBC but when one thinks of all the multilayers of government that overseas ones life.......? and charges us dearly for their time....?
