Husky TE310, or.... ?

Hey gang,

I'm lookin to move to a more dirt oriented ride, and have whittled my choices down to either a Husky or a Beta. The Beta RR 400 or 450, or the Husky TE310.

Would greatly appreciate any/all opinions re one or the other, ie: parts (availability), warranty, reliability, after market goodies, (necessary) mods, etc...

The new Betas are impressive, lightweight, great handling, suspension and brakes and a 400 class bike that fits the lower insurance bracket. Finally, real competition for the DRZ, especially if they arrive with compliance stickers! The Husky looks good too.

Tough choice but I know I would be riding the Beta because of the parts supply. The distributor carries lots of spares right here in BC.

I should add that the following are prerequisites:
- 4 stroke
- street legal
- lightweight
- reasonable fuel capacity
- fuel injection (highly desirable, but optional)

I've done mounds of research, spoken at length with the applicable dealers, taken test rides when possible (still boggles my mind that the status quo is no test drive). Hence input from my fellow DSBC'ers is the logical next step, and invaluable in helping make such a decision.

I'll get started on that oil thread now...:p

Hi Mark, I know we talked about this at the Sasquatch last Sunday but I just thought maybe I should mention it again. There is not enough difference in performance between the Beta 400 and 450 to justify paying the huge increase in the insurance required for the 450. I've had my 400RR up to 135km/hr on the freeway and it was still accelerating when I shut it down. It's got all the power you'll ever need for the highway. I'm not that familiar with the TE310 but it won't perform as well as the Beta 400 on the highway and I doubt that it would be any better on the trails - perhaps not as good in the really tight stuff.

I really like my 400RR and if it were lost or stolen I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. I was in at 5th Gear last week and Bill said he's got a couple of demo 400s in stock. Give him a call - ya can't go wrong.

Best to get out there and ride as many testers as you can. See what fits your body profile. Use your feelers and determine what your "gut instinct" is If you pay careful attention the bike that stands out feels right, fits your physique, riding ability, and your ergonomics. - thats the bike that will capture your attention. The problem with information overload is that it stops you from using your internal instincts. I go and personally test 5 to 8 models without reading or researching the bikes. I have yet to be disappointed with my past decisions.

Too many opinions might confuse you, and you may choose the bike the last person recommended.

Not feeling the X?

Get a cheap XT225 or DRZ400. Ride it for a year or two and sell it off for about the same money. Then buy a KTM, Husaberg, Beta, or Husky.

Or buy the used TE310 in the Classifieds. I will even go look at it for you.

It might become a habit of you buying Kamloops bikes though.
