Husqvarna Canadian Distributor BMG - Bankrupt?

Dealer just told me they can't process warranty issue because Husky Canada has just gone bankrupt and that they need to wait for weeks/months until it is clear who they now need to deal with.

Not really sure how the manufacturer/importer/dealer system works, but sounds a bit weird. Anyone else have any info?

Cheers, JB

Yes, it seems that Barrett Marketing Group has filed for protection from creditors. They 've been the Canadian distributor of Huskys since 2009.
Not good for dealers, but after a short period shouldn't have a negative effect on our interaction with the mothership. As Dan notes, BMW will likely respond quickly & effectively on this.

yeah i was not impressed with barret. after only two attempts to try and support local dealers for parts and waiting for 3-4 weeks to arrive i reverted back to my old ways and just buying them out of the us. us husky has a huge wearhouse somewhere in ny or nj and if you want something a us dealer can get it for you in a few day's. the straw that broke the camel back for me was a side plastic where at a local dealer tried to charge me $53 for a part that was $18 out of the us. cost for them was around $40.

i hope husky try's again as either their own distributor or a better one. but i think i'm done with them. after almost 4 years of owning husky's my next bike will not be a husky again just cause of the pains of getting parts.

I wasn't happy with barrett as well. It seemed to me that they just sold the bikes and did not stock any parts.

I still bought parts from dealers here.

Pacific Motorsports and 5th Gear were always helpful.

I hope that with barrett gone, things will only get better.

Franhoser- I left the husky fold about 5 years ago for the exact same reason. It's to bad, because they do make a nice bike, but a bike that's sitting waiting for parts from a far off land, loses it's apeal very quickly for me!

Maybe they went bankrupt fixing all the Huskys that are falling apart out there. Yes, iam bitter towards Husky and Barrett for that matter.

Im not sorry to here BMG is in trouble, it can only get better if Husky NA takes over, but who knows what the plan is? Unfortunately I to go across the line to buy my parts, partly because its cheaper but mostly I can talk to someone with knowledge and usually has what I want when I want it. I hope the dealers that took on Husky get a fair shake when this is over

I know that this is the wrong forum, but doesnt Barret import KTMs as well?

I could be wrong, but when they got Husky. I read that they used to import KTM, but did not anymore.

Not sure why you guys wouldn't look online for parts at one of the many suppliers; Halls, Motosportz, Uptite, Motoexotica, etc etc? Usually cheaper than buying locally anyway. Parts arrive in a week USPS..

Just want to add an update that Int'l Motorsports is going to take care of me with this issue and work it out later with whomever they need to. in the past these guys have also kindly let me use their iBeat, and so I just wanted to say my experiences with them have all been good.

Thanks jimbee thats good news from International Motor Sports, I purchased my Husky 450 from them a few months ago and am pleased, not to mention that International Motor-sports is a Sponsor of DSBC.

For those of you that like the legal stuff on the BMG bankruptcy follow this link, a lot of reading Looks like they owed RBC about 1.07 mil and GE Capital

Funny how 20 years ago we used to say "Husky parts are really expensive, but it doesn't matter, you can't get them anyway". It seems Husky always picked the wrong guys to distribute their bikes in Canada. I hope they have better luck this time.

Not to brag but I get anything I need for my orphan Sherco usually off the shelf and the longest wait was a stator from Spain in 10 days.

Husky USA is taking over Canadian distribution.
There is a "US" dealer in Stratford, Ontario and its business as usual so if anyone is short on parts.....

"Thanks for your email. There is a new parts ordering process in place. Orders should take approximately two or three days to arrive in Canada. If you have any questions please contact Josh Barrett directly at [email protected]."

This is an email I received just yesturday from Husqvarna Canada.
